Role Overview

The Pathology Collector is instrumental in collecting blood and other samples with precision while ensuring each patient receives considerate and professional care. This role contributes directly to timely and accurate diagnoses by managing samples effectively.

Key Duties

• Perform accurate and careful collection of blood and non-blood specimens
• Offer patients a welcoming and reassuring experience during their visit
• Prepare, package, and handle specimens according to established protocols for transportation
• Maintain precise records and adhere to required operational procedures
• Assist in the smooth day-to-day management of the collection site

Candidate Profile

While prior pathology collection experience or certification (Certificate III in Pathology Collection) is advantageous, candidates from healthcare backgrounds such as aged care, nursing, disability support, or strong customer service roles are welcomed. Essential qualities include reliability, empathy, effective communication, and a willingness to learn.

Prerequisites

• Ability to obtain a valid Working With Children Check before starting
• Provide proof of immunisation including Hepatitis B

Training

The position includes a mandatory 6-week paid training program conducted internally, involving full-time attendance for 2 weeks followed by a minimum of 25 hours weekly. Training content is designed to equip candidates with essential pathology collection skills and knowledge, with pacing adjusted for experienced individuals.

Work Schedule

The role is based in Gymea Bay and surrounding sites, scheduled Monday to Friday from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM.
