Job description
Role Overview
The London Borough of Richmond upon Thames is hiring a Personal Advisor for Future First, the Leaving Care Service supporting over 440 young people aged 16 to 25 who are in the care of Wandsworth Borough Council. This permanent, full-time position is based in Wandsworth, London and carries an annual salary of £38,976 to £49,365 for a 36-hour working week. The service holds an Ofsted rating of Outstanding.
In this role, you will be part of a committed and energetic team focused on helping care-experienced young people move toward stable, independent, and successful adult lives. The post is designed to support a low caseload, with a maximum of 22 young people allocated to each Personal Advisor, enabling stronger and more meaningful professional relationships.
Key Duties
Operating within the framework of the Leaving Care Act 2000 and the Social Work Act 2017, you will provide a Personal Advisor service to the young people assigned to you. While a young person is aged 16 or 17, you will work alongside their Social Worker, and once they transition into the Leaving Care Service, you will assume full case responsibility.
You will develop trusting, supportive relationships that help young people progress toward independent adulthood. The role requires a systemic and trauma-informed approach, along with active encouragement of service-user involvement and feedback. You will also be responsible for maintaining keeping-in-touch arrangements, Pathway Plans, and appropriate accommodation through regular visits and contact.
The post involves regular liaison with internal and external partner agencies, along with some duty cover under management guidance. You may also be required to contribute to group work with young people, so enthusiasm for supporting them is important.
Additional Requirements and Working Arrangements
You should be prepared to travel across the UK as needed and to work some limited evening hours depending on service user availability and duty rotas.
