About the Role
An established organisation engaged in fast-expanding, project-heavy operational areas is searching for a PMO Specialist to assist with managing a varied and strategically significant project portfolio. This position suits a seasoned expert in PMO, project governance, or project controls who excels in a dynamic setting and is passionate about enhancing delivery quality, reinforcing governance frameworks, and supporting overarching portfolio management across various initiatives.
Role Overview
The PMO Specialist functions as a knowledge hub for project delivery excellence, aiding the integration of PMO frameworks, governance policies, and delivery benchmarks throughout the portfolio. The role involves delivering oversight, providing constructive challenges, and sharing insights to bolster informed decision-making and successful project execution.
The post-holder will collaborate extensively with project teams and stakeholders to guarantee robust controls within planning, reporting, risk assessment, issue resolution, and dependency tracking, while also promoting continuous enhancements in delivery capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Create, implement, and perpetually refine project management methodologies, templates, tools, and delivery standards.
- Set up and sustain project delivery control measures, such as stage gates, project evaluations, health audits, risk and issue oversight, dependency management, and escalation protocols.
- Track portfolio performance regarding milestones, budget adherence, forecasts, as well as risks, issues, and dependencies.
- Organize and assist in project board meetings by preparing agendas, documenting actions, decisions, and escalations.
- Conduct workshops and process mapping exercises involving project teams and stakeholders.
- Lead retrospective reviews to extract lessons learned and ensure their application enhances future delivery strategies.
- Offer guidance and constructive feedback to project teams aimed at fortifying project governance and delivery discipline.
- Champion ongoing improvements within PMO processes, reporting methods, and governance structures.
Essential Qualifications and Experience
- At least 7 years of pertinent experience in PMO, project governance, project controls, or overseeing delivery processes.
- In-depth understanding of project delivery fundamentals including cost control, scheduling, and risk management.
- Experience managing extensive or complex project portfolios.
- Strong grasp of governance principles, risk management, and control frameworks.
- Proven capability in facilitating workshops and driving enhancements in process or delivery effectiveness.
- Advanced analytical skills to interpret project data, detect risks, and identify emerging trends.
- A tertiary qualification in Engineering, Project Management, or a related field.
- Possession of a full driving license and access to a vehicle.
- Desirable: Professional certifications such as PMP, PRINCE2, MSP, APM or their equivalents.
