Job description
About the Role
We are seeking a Product Designer who operates with founder-like initiative, not waiting for perfect specifications but proactively identifying opportunities, rapidly prototyping, setting product direction, and delivering impactful user experiences swiftly. This position involves far more than aesthetic adjustments; it encompasses product strategy, interaction design, system architecture, prototyping, and execution, often progressing from concept to launched product within days rather than months.
The ideal candidate thinks strategically, builds rigorously, and leverages AI effectively to accelerate workflows.
Distinctive Aspects of This Role
The scope of design is evolving. With AI bridging the gap between concept and execution, top designers today move beyond mockups to explore product directions, prototype interactions, create functional interfaces, and validate ideas independently.
We value designers who:
- Approach challenges as product leaders
- Create prototypes with engineering precision
- Utilize AI tools proficiently
- Focus on results rather than just deliverables
- Transform ambiguity into shipped products with minimal overhead
Key Responsibilities
- Manage product areas from initial insights through to delivery
- Lead exploratory projects, transforming broad concepts into concrete products
- Prototype rapidly using code, AI tools, Figma, or whichever medium best conveys the idea
- Collaborate directly with engineers and product managers to influence product strategy beyond implementation
- Think holistically about systems, workflows, and feature integration across platforms
- Incorporate AI tools daily to enhance creativity, speed, and iteration cycles
- Elevate company-wide quality through sound product judgment and craftsmanship
- Accelerate idea execution instead of prolonged planning
Work Culture
- Prioritize rapid learning and iteration
- Favor early prototyping over extensive debate
- Heavily integrate AI in design, product thinking, research, and engineering
- Support small, high-agency teams capable of outperforming larger groups
- Value "token maxxers" who use AI consistently to accelerate execution, test ideas swiftly, and expand individual impact
- Emphasize shipping and learning over strict role definitions
Candidate Profile
- 3 to 6 years of product design experience, preferably within startups or highly product-driven companies
- Proven success in taking products or features from concept through launch ownership
- Highly proactive with the ability to advance projects independently
- Strong instincts for product design and clear rationale for feature choices
- Excellent skills in visual and interaction design grounded in systems thinking
- Comfortable navigating ambiguity and solving problems in real time
- Preference for building and prototyping rather than prolonged ideation phases
- Effective communicator with engineers, product managers, and leadership
- Passionate about AI-driven workflows and the future of product development
Additional Advantages
- Ability to prototype using code
- Experience with tools such as Cursor, v0, Lovable, Replit, Claude, or comparable AI solutions
- Prior work on AI-native or developer-focused products
- Experience as an early designer in a startup environment
- Deep commitment to improving product velocity and iteration speed
Success Indicators
- Accelerates project delivery without compromising quality
- Converts vague concepts into fully launched products
- Creates user experiences that feel intuitive, swift, and inevitable
- Fosters a culture linking design strongly to product vision and execution
Compensation
The salary range for this role is $150,000 to $175,000 annually in San Francisco. The final offer will consider factors such as role level, experience, skills, and relevant expertise.
