Job description

Position overview

The Product Manager role is focused on creating measurable business impact by improving sales, operational efficiency, and customer satisfaction through high-quality product delivery. This person will own a defined enterprise product area and work closely with engineering, design, and business stakeholders to deliver small, continuous improvements that add value. The role also includes contributing to detailed business reviews, presenting to a range of audiences, and supporting collaborative product teams across functions.

Key responsibilities

Strategy and planning

  • Build a strong understanding of current and future customer and associate needs and use that insight to shape products that improve the experience for Home Depot customers and associates.
  • Convert business objectives and user needs into a clear product direction, and communicate priorities to the development team, related internal groups, and external partners.
  • Define goals, success metrics, and analytics that show product impact, and keep refining the backlog based on what is learned.
  • Carry out user research to uncover stories and help identify the minimum viable product.
  • Work with Finance to understand financial requirements and support business case development for new opportunities.
  • Track research findings and the competitive landscape to recommend strong solutions and keep products competitive.
  • Review market analysis and technology trends to advise on the most effective product approach.

Delivery and execution

  • Make sure the product stays aligned with company goals, stakeholder needs, and user priorities so it can drive sales, improve efficiency, and increase satisfaction.
  • Maintain documentation and ensure quality and change-control expectations are followed.
  • Test and refine assumptions through user research and testing.
  • Write, rank, and approve user stories, and include them in release planning.
  • Make day-to-day product decisions that create value.
  • Assess feature benefits, trade-offs, blockers, dependencies, and risks.
  • Take part in stand-ups, iteration planning, product demos, and retrospectives.
  • Turn technical concepts into plain language for non-technical stakeholders.

People and collaboration

  • Work closely with engineering, user experience designers, and others to remove blockers and maximize value delivery.
  • Support modern software development practices and encourage their use.
  • Represent the end user and stakeholders by deeply understanding their needs and becoming the subject matter expert for the domain.
  • Regularly review progress with the product team, capture lessons learned, and clarify next steps.
  • Set and manage expectations with cross-functional teams and stakeholders, and help requestors understand prioritization based on business value and user experience.
  • Listen actively, facilitate discussions, and communicate the product vision clearly to audiences at every level, including executive leadership and store associates.
