About the Office

The Kings County District Attorney’s Office (KCDA) stands as one of the largest prosecutorial agencies nationwide. It is focused on implementing innovative legal strategies to ensure safety in Brooklyn, while promoting fairness and justice for all individuals. Within KCDA, the Criminal Court Bureau manages misdemeanor prosecutions across Brooklyn and is the largest bureau by case volume and staffing. This bureau frequently interacts with crime victims, police precinct visitors, and the general public.

Role Overview

Under general supervision with some ability to exercise independent judgment, the Receptionist will support daily activities and goals of the Criminal Court Bureau through a variety of administrative and clerical duties.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver administrative assistance to the Criminal Court Bureau team.
  • Perform reception duties including greeting staff and visitors and offering necessary support.
  • Notify KCDA legal staff promptly upon visitor arrivals.
  • Provide courteous and professional telephone service by answering and routing calls accurately, taking messages, and distributing them appropriately.
  • Coordinate with the Victim Services Unit to manage witness accommodations by routing notifications as needed.
  • Order office supplies as required, maintaining precise inventory records.
  • Record and maintain documentation such as sign-in logs, staff whereabouts during the workday, spreadsheets, and other essential documents.
  • Report any unsafe or hazardous conditions to designated personnel.
  • Perform additional clerical tasks as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • No formal education or experience requirements are stipulated, but candidates must be capable of understanding and following simple instructions.
  • Fluency in English, both spoken and understood, is mandatory.

Residency Requirements

Generally, New York City residency is required within 90 days of employment. City employees with two continuous years of service in certain titles may have alternative residency options within neighboring counties. Applicants are encouraged to clarify specific residency criteria with the agency representative during the interview process.
