About The Cadence Institute for Policy & Society

The Cadence Institute for Policy & Society is committed to fostering innovation and discovery through interdisciplinary research. Under the leadership of Dr. Edward Summers, it targets critical policy domains including HIV/AIDS funding, higher education, LGBTQAI+ matters, civil rights, and economic and community development. The Institute emphasizes diverse perspectives to tackle intricate social challenges and shape policy decisions.

Role Overview

This position is a remote, unpaid internship for a Research and Policy Intern. The intern will contribute to ongoing studies and policy efforts across the Institute’s specialized fields. Duties involve reviewing literature, collecting and interpreting both qualitative and quantitative data, and composing research summaries and briefs for internal and external stakeholders. Further responsibilities include supporting the preparation of presentations, policy documents, and communication tools that make research findings accessible. Monitoring legislative and policy activity, participating in virtual conferences, and cooperating with team members to meet project targets are also part of the role.

Qualifications and Preferences

  • Proficient policy and general research abilities, capable of synthesizing complex information from varied sources.
  • Strong analytical skills including basic data evaluation and critical thinking applied to social and economic issues.
  • Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills for developing policy documents, reports, and presentations.
  • Basic familiarity with economics or related social sciences, especially linked to public policy and community development.
  • Interest or experience with HIV/AIDS, higher education, LGBTQAI+, civil rights, and economic and community progress.
  • Self-motivated to work remotely with good time management and deadline adherence.
  • Enrollment in or recent completion of relevant degree programs such as public policy, political science, economics, or sociology is desirable.
  • Dedication to principles of equity, inclusion, and ethical research methodology.
