Job description

Role Overview

As a Research Executive at Temasek Polytechnic, you will focus on advancing research in fish parasitology through identification, isolation, and cultivation of fish parasites. You will contribute hands-on expertise in fish husbandry and manage experimental workflows to support project goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify fish parasites and enhance techniques for their isolation and culture.
  • Examine and detail the life cycle of fish parasites via scheduled sample collection and analysis.
  • Conduct fish husbandry duties, including maintaining experimental fish populations and parasite cultures.
  • Assist procurement processes by coordinating with suppliers, preparing purchase orders, and managing lab supplies and equipment.
  • Collaborate with project team and external collaborators to design and perform experiments; produce progress reports for project meetings.
  • Guide and mentor student interns involved in the research, offering technical support and training.
  • Maintain detailed experimental records and ensure adherence to safety standards and institutional protocols.
  • Undertake additional research-related tasks as assigned by the Principal Investigator or project team.

Candidate Profile

  • Educational background in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Aquaculture, Veterinary Science, or related life science fields.
  • Practical experience in fish husbandry and fish parasite identification, isolation, and culturing is essential.
  • Experience in parasitology research and molecular biology techniques is advantageous.
  • Prior experience with animal cell cultures, especially fish primary cell culture, is preferred; however, candidates with relevant lab experience and eagerness to learn will be considered.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong organizational, planning, multitasking abilities coupled with commitment to project deadlines.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills with capability to interpret and present scientific data.
  • Self-driven, flexible, and keen to acquire new laboratory methods and contribute to interdisciplinary research initiatives.
