Retail Store Cashier

About the Role

This position entails serving as the frontline cashier at a retail store, responsible for providing a welcoming and efficient checkout experience. The cashier processes transactions, manages returns, and contributes to overall customer satisfaction and store functioning.

Key Responsibilities

• Warmly acknowledge customers at checkout.
• Scan merchandise, confirm prices, apply promotions, and complete payments via cash, cards, or mobile methods.
• Operate the point of sale system accurately and issue receipts or change as needed.
• Process returns, exchanges, and refunds following store guidelines.
• Ensure cash drawer balances at shift end; investigate discrepancies and notify management accordingly.
• Keep the checkout area tidy, organized, and presentable.
• Assist customers with inquiries or direct them to appropriate personnel.
• Inform shoppers about current store promotions, loyalty benefits, and special deals.
• Support store operations by restocking merchandise, bagging items, and assisting during busy periods.
• Comply with company policies related to loss prevention, security, and cash handling.
• Report equipment problems, technical difficulties, or customer complaints to the store manager.

Qualifications and Skills

• Minimum educational qualification: completion of 12th grade.
• Previous cashier experience, ideally within retail or fast-paced environments, preferred.
• Competency with basic math, cash handling, POS systems, and making change.
• Strong customer service aptitude: friendly, approachable, and patient demeanor.
• Effective verbal communication and teamwork skills.
• High precision, attention to detail, and ethical handling of cash and transactions.
• Physical ability to stand for prolonged periods and perform moderate activity such as bagging and restocking.
• Dependability, punctuality, and trustworthiness in handling confidential financial information.
• Proficiency in English and Kannada languages.
