Position Overview
The role of a Self Checkout Attendant at Walmart Canada provides an excellent opportunity to develop customer service and retail operational skills. This position focuses on facilitating a positive shopping experience by delivering friendly assistance and guiding customers through their transactions in the self-service checkout zone.
Key Responsibilities
- Keep the self-checkout area clean, safe, and neatly organized, ensuring it is free from clutter, debris, and spills.
- Promote Walmart programs such as credit card services, product protection plans, and charitable campaigns when appropriate.
- Assist customers in using self-checkout stations efficiently by offering support, monitoring activity, clarifying any transaction interventions kindly, and escalating any cash or technical concerns to the Customer Service Manager.
- Respond promptly to Electronic Article Surveillance (EAS) alerts following established procedures, completing accurate documentation of any incidents.
- Ensure Scan & Go devices are returned to their proper storage locations after use.
- Exhibit flexibility by working varied shifts including evenings, weekends, and holidays, meeting business needs and supporting consistent service delivery.
Challenges of the Role
- Manage high workload during fast-paced periods effectively, including overnight shifts, by maintaining focus and energy.
- Handle substantial volumes of restocking and store recovery tasks with accuracy and timeliness.
- Perform physical activities such as standing for long durations, bending, and lifting items up to 20 pounds regularly and occasionally up to 50 pounds.
- Carry out repetitive tasks like stocking and zoning products with precision to maintain store standards.

Compensation
The starting wage for this position is $18.40 per hour.
