Position Overview
Join as a Senior Companion providing warm, regular friendship and company to elderly individuals in Bengaluru East. This role is uniquely open to individuals aged 50 and above to foster peer connections. The position involves accompanying seniors on morning walks, errands, outings, and engaging in leisure activities like card games and conversations. No caregiving or medical responsibilities are involved, allowing for flexible part-time hours tailored to your availability.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide consistent and reliable company to seniors on scheduled days to offer structure and companionship.
- Participate in morning or evening walks, maintaining an easy, conversational pace rather than purely escorting.
- Accompany seniors to community or social events such as clubs, spiritual gatherings, and hobby classes, encouraging participation.
- Support outings to everyday locations like markets, banks, family functions, or medical appointments (as company only).
- Share day trips, visits to restaurants, or catching up with old friends to enrich social experiences.
- Engage in relaxing home activities including conversation, reading newspapers aloud, playing games like carrom, chess, or cards, and listening to music.
- Assist with phone-related tasks on request, such as video calls or online payments.
- Observe the senior's mood and health; promptly report concerns to family and care coordinators.
- Respect the routines, privacy, and boundaries of the senior’s home, maintaining a friendly, guest-like presence.
- Provide brief post-visit updates to the family via WhatsApp or similar communication.
Candidate Profile and Requirements
- Must be aged 50 years or older, as the role calls for peer-to-peer companionship.
- Naturally outgoing, sociable, and attentive; able to initiate and sustain comfortable conversations, with an ease in shared silences.
- Reliable with consistent availability; maintaining regular scheduled visits is essential for effective companionship.
- Physically capable of moderate walking and navigating short local trips independently.
- Conversational proficiency in at least one regional language such as Kannada, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, or English.
- Willing to undergo standard background verification and provide two professional or personal references.
- No prior caregiving experience or formal qualifications are required; individuals from diverse backgrounds including retired professionals, homemakers, or businesspersons are encouraged.
Preferred Attributes
- Possession of hobbies conducive to sharing, including chess, carrom, card games, music, gardening, or spiritual reading.
- Previous roles involving people interaction, such as teaching, banking, government service, or retail management.
- Comfortable using local transport like autos, metro, or personal scooters for outings.
- Basic familiarity with smartphones for sending updates via WhatsApp (training available).
Scope Clarifications
- This position purely involves companionship focused on shared time and conversation.
- Does not include personal caregiving duties such as bathing, dressing, feeding, or toileting assistance.
- No responsibility for medical tasks like medication administration or wound care; trained medical attendants handle such needs separately.
- Candidates may decline tasks outside this scope and should notify their care coordinator to manage family expectations.
Work Arrangements
- Flexible scheduling options ranging from a few hours per visit on chosen days to full day companionship without caregiving obligations.
- Matches made with seniors living near the companion’s residence to minimize travel.
Ideal For
- Recently retired individuals seeking purposeful engagement and meaningful daily interaction.
- Empty nesters with free time during daytime hours.
- Those whose own parents live far away and wish to fill the companionship gap.
Compensation and Support
- Pay scales are determined during candidate shortlisting and depend on visit frequency and engagement type.
- Dedicated Care Coordinator support available for issue resolution and placement assistance.
- Written role guidelines clearly outline responsibilities and expectations before starting.
- Family and companion verification processes ensure safety for all parties.
Application Details
- Applicants should prepare their current CV and contact details along with two references for verification.
