We seek an experienced Senior Estimator to join our European offices, including Dublin, Cork, Birmingham, Manchester, Copenhagen, Frankfurt, Basel, or Milan. The role involves overseeing and managing detailed cost estimations for large-scale EPCMV projects focused on pharmaceutical industries, ensuring bids are accurate, competitive, and aligned with project goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of detailed cost estimates covering materials, labor, equipment, and other expenses for EPCMV projects, conforming to client and contractual requirements.
  • Analyze and quantify project components such as scope, engineering designs, and construction techniques to identify cost-efficient solutions.
  • Prepare thorough cost breakdowns from initial bidding through to post-bid phases, ensuring clarity and precision.
  • Review tender documents, including scope of work and design specifications; develop bid packages, define work scope, and prepare bid tabulations.
  • Collaborate with project teams to incorporate input on risks, schedules, and financial considerations, identifying opportunities to reduce costs during bidding.
  • Assess project risks related to cost, timelines, and client expectations; propose mitigation strategies especially concerning procurement, design changes, and resource allocation.
  • Engage with suppliers and subcontractors to secure competitive pricing, evaluate and validate bids, and maintain quality and timely delivery standards.
  • Monitor project expenditures against estimates, identify discrepancies, and recommend corrective steps to preserve budget and profitability.
  • Regularly communicate budget and progress updates with management, project teams, and clients to ensure alignment.
  • Lead post-bid evaluations comparing estimates with actual outcomes to identify process improvements.
  • Provide mentorship and training to junior estimators, enhancing overall team proficiency.
  • Utilize current estimation software and tools, keeping up-to-date with industry advancements to improve efficiency.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Five to ten years' experience in estimation within the EPCMV sector, including at least three years in a senior position.
  • Extensive knowledge of construction, procurement, project management, and the EPCMV project lifecycle.
  • Hands-on experience with structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical, and fire protection services in cost estimation.
  • Proficiency in international cost estimation standards and financial budgeting for major construction projects.
  • Strong analytical, numerical, and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Proficient in estimation software such as Procore or Excel and knowledgeable about construction methods, material use, and contracts.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, leadership, and mentoring abilities.
  • Ability to perform under pressure and meet tight deadlines in a collaborative environment.

Desirable Skills

  • Professional accreditation such as SCSI, RICS, or AACE is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Familiarity with standards like NEC, RIAI, and local project management guidelines.
  • Previous exposure to large-scale or international projects in sectors including pharmaceuticals, energy, and infrastructure.
