Role Overview

The Senior Process Engineer role is a full-time position located at our Hamilton office in New Zealand, reporting directly to the Group Technical Director. This leadership position within the Group Technical team encompasses responsibility for guiding process engineering efforts from feasibility assessments through detailed design, commissioning, and optimizing operational performance.

Key daily activities include creating and revising process designs and engineering calculations, specifying equipment needs, developing process flow diagrams and P&IDs, and ensuring sound process control strategies. The engineer will conduct technical evaluations, assist with troubleshooting and root cause analyses, and collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams and clients to uphold safety, quality, and regulatory standards.

Additional responsibilities encompass mentoring junior engineering staff, fostering best practice development, and driving continuous improvements across various projects.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Strong expertise in process design and engineering, including proficiency with process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), equipment sizing, and specification.
  • In-depth knowledge of process control systems, control strategies, instrumentation, and automation integration.
  • Advanced analytical skills to interpret complex data, perform detailed calculations, and resolve technical challenges.
  • A solid educational foundation in chemical engineering or a related engineering discipline with relevant industrial project experience.
  • Mandatory experience in food and beverage, industrial, pharmaceutical, or wastewater process industries, familiar with corresponding standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, capable of effective collaboration within multidisciplinary teams and client interaction.
  • Demonstrated project leadership ability, aptitude for mentoring junior engineers, and skill managing multiple concurrent priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher qualification in chemical engineering or an allied field; professional engineering registration or pursuit thereof is an asset.
