Job description

About the Role

Amentum is hiring a Ship Load Planner to support a specialized U.S. Navy program on Diego Garcia. The role sits within a global organization that delivers advanced engineering, technical, and professional services for government, allied, and critical infrastructure operations.

What You’ll Do

  • Create accurate cargo and container stowage plans so vessel loading and unloading happen efficiently and within operational and safety limits.
  • Work closely with shipping agents, port authorities, stevedores, and logistics teams to keep cargo moving on schedule.
  • Coordinate with vessel captains and marine terminals to confirm stowage needs and help maintain vessel stability, safety, and seaworthiness.
  • Review freight manifests and check cargo sizes, weights, and special handling needs before placing items into the stowage plan.
  • Use ship-loading software to build and manage load plans and stowage instructions that make the best use of vessel capacity.
  • Inspect operations to confirm that work follows the load plan and that equipment and personnel safety standards are being met.
  • Respond quickly to operational issues and adjust load plans when changes or unexpected problems occur during vessel operations.
  • Document cargo-handling activity in detail, including load plans, discrepancies in materials, and operational observations.
  • Maintain compliance with safety rules and all relevant local, government, and international shipping regulations throughout cargo handling.
  • Encourage smooth coordination and clear communication among everyone involved in shipping and pier operations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Between 1 and 3 years of experience in ship load planning, maritime logistics, materials handling, or vessel operations.
  • High school diploma or an equivalent qualification.
  • A valid passport is required, and international travel must be possible.
  • The passport must have at least 1 year of validity remaining at the time of hiring.
  • Ability to use ship stowage planning software is required.
  • Must be able to meet contract medical standards and continue meeting them for the full deployment period.
  • Must be eligible to obtain and retain facility credentials and authorization.

Preferred Background

  • Experience working in an austere OCONUS environment with a multinational workforce is preferred.
  • A valid country driver’s license and passport are preferred.
  • Country visa, where required under the U.S. Department of State Foreign Clearance Guide, is preferred.
  • Experience in ship loading, cargo coordination, or maritime logistics is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of international shipping frameworks such as IMO requirements and the ISPS Code is preferred.
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving ability to anticipate and resolve stowage issues is preferred.
  • Comfort with Microsoft Office and ship planning systems such as CASP, MACS3, or similar tools is preferred.
