About the Role
Join Scotiabank's Automotive Finance Engineering division as a Software Engineer, contributing to the creation of cloud-enabled backend services, APIs, and frontend components that streamline financing, leasing, and dealer system processes for Retail and Commercial sectors.
Key Responsibilities
- Write clear, maintainable, and well-documented code utilizing technologies such as .NET, C#, Java, and React.
- Develop, refine, and maintain REST APIs, microservices, and event-driven modules.
- Engage in activities including code reviews, unit testing, debugging, and performance optimization.
- Document software functionalities, system architecture, and technical decisions thoroughly.
- Adhere to secure coding standards and uphold rigorous engineering quality criteria.
- Deploy solutions on Azure cloud using Azure DevOps pipelines and apply Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform.
- Leverage monitoring and observability tools such as Splunk and Dynatrace to ensure system health and performance.
- Collaborate with Site Reliability Engineering, Security, and Cloud teams to maintain compliance and operational excellence.
- Create and validate APIs employing Swagger/OpenAPI, Postman, and automated testing frameworks.
- Utilize Node.js for backend or API layer components when necessary.
- Integrate systems with internal platforms, dealer networks, and partner services with potential use of event-driven messaging tools like Kafka or RabbitMQ.
- Manage SQL databases, stored procedures, and support cloud data services and analytics collaboration.
- Champion a customer-centric approach, ensuring delivery of dependable and high-quality solutions while embedding Scotiabank's risk management and compliance mandates in engineering choices.
- Work closely in agile teams with product managers, architects, testers, and other engineers.
- Participate actively in knowledge sharing sessions, sprint meetings, and leverage productivity tools, including AI-assisted development technologies.
Skills and Qualifications
- 3 to 5 years of practical experience in software engineering.
- Proficiency in .NET framework, C#, Java programming, React frontend development, SQL databases, and Node.js backend development.
- Experience using tools such as Azure DevOps (TFS), Visual Studio/VS Code, Postman, Swagger/OpenAPI, and monitoring platforms like Splunk and Dynatrace.
- Strong grasp of REST API design, microservices architecture, distributed system principles, version control with Git, and CI/CD methodologies.
- Familiarity with event-driven architecture components like Kafka and RabbitMQ is a plus.
- Working knowledge of Azure cloud services including App Services, Functions, and Service Bus is advantageous.
- Exposure to automotive finance or broader financial services sectors is desirable.
- Enthusiasm for AI/ML technologies, developer productivity enhancements, and intelligent automation techniques is welcome.
- Experience modernizing legacy applications is an added benefit.
