Job description

About the Role

Muon is seeking a talented Software Engineer specializing in frontend development to join our Mission Frontend team. In this position, you will be responsible for creating and delivering features on our Mission Command platform—a centralized frontend for mission operations, customer interfaces, and internal processes. Your work will span from initial feature design, development, deployment, to ongoing post-launch performance and reliability monitoring. The software is crafted in a modern TypeScript monorepo, and you will help define the platform as the definitive tool for managing satellite constellations, scheduling communications, and monitoring missions at scale. Collaboration with peers on technical strategies and coding quality is key, and you’ll leverage AI-assisted coding technologies as part of your development workflow. This role delivers mission-critical, dependable, and user-friendly solutions that our satellite operators and customers rely upon every day.

This role requires working on-site at the San Jose, CA office three days per week.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deploy features on Muon Space's integrated web platform aimed at delivering dependable, efficient, and accessible user experiences to satellite operators, customers, and internal users.
  • Take full ownership of feature lifecycles, including design, coding, testing, documentation, deployment, and maintenance with an emphasis on quality and reliability.
  • Engage in code evaluations and architectural discussions to elevate team standards and product quality.
  • Work cross-functionally with backend engineers and product teams to gather and clarify requirements.
  • Maintain the operational excellence of shipped features via monitoring tools and actively improve performance and stability.
  • Develop into an independent and trusted contributor, helping establish the web platform as the core interface for Muon's mission operations.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline; or equivalent professional experience.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills focused on delivering user-centric, scalable solutions.
  • Minimum of five years of software engineering experience, ideally with robust typed frontend languages such as TypeScript or Flow.
  • Commitment to writing semantically accurate, maintainable, and clean code.
  • Proven ability to work on complex web applications and large codebases.
  • Experience with automated CI/CD pipelines and static code analysis.
  • Skilled in managing code changes in fast-paced, collaborative team environments.

Preferred Skills

  • Familiarity with AI-assisted programming tools like Codex or Claude Code.
  • Experience with server-side rendering, React server components, and universal (isomorphic) coding patterns.
  • Knowledge of 3D applications or interactive geospatial data visualization.
  • Experience managing large monorepos involving multiple teams.
  • Comfortable working with accessibility-focused UI libraries such as React Aria or Radix UI.
  • Proficient with frontend observability and monitoring platforms like Grafana Faro, OpenTelemetry, or Sentry.
  • Exposure to aerospace, satellite operations, or mission-critical software environments.
  • Hands-on experience developing or maintaining CI/CD workflows, containerized deployments (Docker, Helm), and automated dependency management tools (e.g., Renovate, Dependabot).

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range offered for this position is $156,000 to $186,000 annually. Additionally, this role includes a competitive equity package and comprehensive benefits such as medical, dental, vision insurance, 401k plans, disability, life insurance, paid vacation, sick leave, holidays, and parental leave.
