Abu Dhabi Healthcare Company (SEHA), established in 2007, operates all public hospitals and clinics across Abu Dhabi Emirate, providing broad access to healthcare services. Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC) is its largest teaching hospital in the UAE, known for pioneering advanced medical technologies and specialized programs including transplant, cardiac, and mental health services.
Role Overview
The Sonographer is responsible for independently or under supervision performing ultrasound imaging procedures, analyzing images, and reporting findings. The role requires adherence to departmental policies, safety regulations, and quality control to ensure accurate diagnostics and patient care.
Responsibilities
- Maintain inventory levels of materials and equipment necessary for performing duties and report shortages promptly to supervisors.
- Execute ultrasound imaging procedures aligned with hospital protocols, applying detailed anatomy and physiology knowledge to produce high-quality diagnostic images.
- Carry out additional specialized radiography procedures as required.
- Assess ultrasound images for quality, completeness, and appropriateness, consulting with radiologists for further action.
- Identify anatomy and pathology on cross-sectional images, optimize scanning protocols, and coordinate with radiologists for additional testing.
- Ensure safe and competent use and maintenance of radiology equipment, reporting incidents or equipment malfunctions timely.
- Maintain cleanliness of the work area, restock supplies, and clean equipment regularly.
- Advise medical and technical staff on imaging techniques and interventions.
- Respond to initial patient and clinical staff inquiries, escalating as necessary.
- Engage in continuous quality improvement and comply with safety and infection control measures to minimize cross-infection risks.
- Protect patient confidentiality rigorously and operate within established policies and procedures.
- Document all interventions accurately and support clinical audit initiatives.
- Communicate professionally with patients, families, and medical personnel to clarify procedures and relay information effectively.
- Participate in educational activities including staff training, peer reviews, and clinical presentations.
- Contribute to departmental and hospital committees, meetings, and staff orientations.
- Maintain professional knowledge through ongoing education and complete all mandatory regulatory requirements such as licensure and certification.
Qualifications
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Minimum two years of post-graduate ultrasound experience in an acute care hospital setting, including Doppler, obstetrics/gynecology, and abdominal sonography. Candidates with senior ultrasound radiographer experience must have at least two years in such roles.
- Alternatively, applicants with at least four years of post-graduate ultrasound experience in an acute care hospital are eligible.
- UAE Nationals require a minimum of two years post-graduate experience in general radiography.
- A postgraduate diploma in ultrasound is desirable but not mandatory.
