Job description

Position Overview

This role entails leading and managing an assigned intelligence unit focused on gathering, analyzing, and distributing intelligence to support investigations, enhance enforcement strategies, and promote crime reduction, particularly targeting violent crime. The position demands staff supervision, analytical prioritization, and collaboration with internal teams and external agencies to strengthen situational awareness and threat identification.

Core Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations of the intelligence unit, directing staff involved in data gathering, analysis, and intelligence product creation.
  • Plan schedules and methodologies for delivering intelligence services; assess and allocate staffing, data, and technology resources in coordination with leadership.
  • Help develop and implement intelligence program goals and related policies and procedures.
  • Provide expert guidance on analytical techniques, data interpretation, and the dissemination of intelligence to ensure quality and consistency.
  • Evaluate complex data from diverse sources such as police reports, criminal databases, surveillance recordings, and social media to uncover suspects, crime patterns, and trends.
  • Create comprehensive intelligence deliverables including bulletins, link analysis, timelines, suspect profiles, and briefs tailored to investigative and operational needs.
  • Collaborate with investigative and patrol units to formulate focused enforcement strategies aimed at disrupting crime and reducing violent offenses.
  • Continuously monitor emerging threats and trends, guaranteeing timely dissemination of pertinent intelligence to command staff and field teams.
  • Support investigations by guiding analyses that identify witnesses, suspect-victim relationships, and geographic hotspots.
  • Manage information sharing with regional, state, and federal entities ensuring adherence to data security and sharing protocols.
  • Maintain integrity, accuracy, and confidentiality of intelligence databases and systems.
  • Deliver intelligence briefings and presentations to command leadership, investigative teams, and external partners.
  • Recruit, train, motivate, and assess personnel; undertake staff development and enforce disciplinary actions as necessary.
  • Evaluate analytic tools and systems to confirm compliance with operational standards.
  • Oversee financial and contractual aspects related to analytical services including invoice audits and procurement procedures.

Additional Duties

  • Participate in professional meetings to stay current with trends and innovations in the field.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned.

Education & Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, intelligence studies, criminology, data analytics, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum five years experience in analytical or investigative support within law enforcement or criminal intelligence contexts.
  • At least two years of supervisory experience.

Other Mandatory Requirements

  • Valid New Mexico driver’s license or the ability to obtain one by hire date.
  • Obtain City Operator’s Permit within six months following hire.

Working Environment

  • Office setting with regular exposure to computer screens.
  • Work involves traveling between sites.
  • Physical demands include light to moderate lifting and the ability to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods.
