Job description

Overview

Reporting to the Equipment Officer, the Supply Clerk will oversee the orderly coordination of supplies, inventory, and deliveries of equipment, tools, and parts to support fire stations and related operations within the City of Mississauga. This role includes maintaining inventory controls, managing the stockroom, and providing counter services as well as addressing procurement and warranty needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct cyclical and annual physical inventory counts to ensure stock accuracy at both stores and fire stations.
  • Manage procurement processes for low to medium value items, ensuring timely ordering and precise inventory records.
  • Receive, store, and distribute supplies efficiently while verifying order accuracy.
  • Handle the physical loading, unloading, and transportation of stock and equipment citywide to meet operational demands.
  • Process warranty claims and maintain related documentation.
  • Operate and update electronic inventory management systems; prepare and analyze inventory reports.
  • Address customer inquiries and resolve order discrepancies promptly.
  • Maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for all stored and utilized products.
  • Carry out assigned administrative duties and support the Equipment Officer where necessary.
  • Uphold cleanliness and safety standards in the workplace.
  • Maintain a valid Ontario “G” driver’s license and adhere to City driving standards.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Completion of secondary education is essential; additional post-secondary diplomas or degrees are advantageous.
  • At least three years of experience in inventory management, vendor contract handling, or utilizing inventory control systems.
  • Background in dispatch, warehouse, logistics, supply chain, or business administration is beneficial.
  • Proficient with ERP systems such as SAP R/3, inventory and maintenance software like INFOR and FASTER, along with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Demonstrated capability in procurement of low to medium value items with knowledge of specifications drafting.
  • Familiarity with project management principles is a plus.
  • Understanding of inventory control methods in industrial or municipal settings is preferred.
  • Knowledge of health and safety legislation including the Occupational Health and Safety Act, WHMIS, and hazardous materials handling.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, paired with excellent customer service and interpersonal abilities.
  • Excellent organizational talents, meticulous attention to detail, and independent work capacity.
  • Ability to multitask in a dynamic environment and meet physical requirements including lifting items up to 20 kilograms and standing for extended periods.
  • Possession of a valid Class “G” Ontario driver’s license with an acceptable driver’s abstract for the City of Mississauga.

Additional Information

  • Salary Range: $77,848 to $91,586 per annum.
  • Work Schedule: 40 hours per week.
  • Work Site: Fire Station No. 101 - Headquarters.
  • Department: City Manager's Office, Fire Division - Fire Capital Assets.
  • This is a unionized position under the Fire Union.
