Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced Technical Product Owner to drive the advancement of our high-traffic Sports and News mobile apps. This critical position works closely with the Product Owner, focusing mainly on backend systems and APIs to align business goals, user needs, and technical execution. You will empower Scrum teams by thoroughly refining backend-related user stories to be clear, concise, and fully prepared for sprint development to boost team efficiency and product quality.

Key Responsibilities

• Partner with the Product Owner and leadership to define the product vision, strategy, and roadmap for the Sports and News mobile applications, ensuring alignment with company objectives and technical constraints.
• Oversee the product backlog management and prioritization with an emphasis on backend services, APIs, and their integration with the mobile front-end, maintaining transparency and maximizing value.
• Lead backlog refinement sessions focusing on backend user stories with the Scrum development team, breaking down epics and large features into granular stories and clearly defining functional requirements, technical details, and acceptance criteria.
• Serve as the principal technical contact bridging mobile development and backend engineering, translating business requirements into actionable API and backend tasks, and contributing to the design of scalable and dependable backend services.
• Collaborate with stakeholders—including business units, editorial teams, marketing, and UX/UI designers—to gather inputs and ensure cohesive alignment across teams.
• Engage actively in Scrum ceremonies to support the team, offering clarifications especially regarding backend and API implementations.
• Work alongside QA teams to validate backend features and API functionalities, ensuring they meet acceptance criteria and quality standards.
• Monitor backend KPIs such as service health, API response times, data integrity, and user feedback to guide continuous product improvements.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Minimum of 3 years in Product Owner, Technical Product Manager, or related roles with significant focus on backend systems or API development in mobile applications.
• Proven experience working within Agile/Scrum frameworks, particularly skilled in backlog grooming and story refinement for backend services.
• Expertise in authoring clear, detailed user stories and acceptance criteria for backend functionalities and APIs.
• Strong understanding of mobile application lifecycles (iOS and/or Android) and their backend interactions.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, adept at engaging both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Proficiency with backlog management tools such as Jira and Confluence.
• Analytical mindset with a strong enthusiasm for data-driven decision-making.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with high-volume, consumer-facing applications, especially in Sports or News media sectors.
• Technical background or deep familiarity with mobile technologies, RESTful APIs, microservices, and system integrations.
• Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) or equivalent Agile certification.
