Position Summary
The Traffic Control Flagger is essential for managing traffic flow around construction sites, road maintenance operations, and other work zones. This role involves the strategic placement and removal of traffic control devices such as signs, cones, and barricades to ensure the safety of both the workforce and the general public. The Flagger will utilize hand signals and traffic control equipment to guide vehicles safely through designated areas. The position demands a high level of attention to detail, resilience to work outdoors in diverse weather conditions, and the capacity to remain standing for prolonged periods.
Essential Functions
- Deploying signs, cones, and other traffic control apparatus to reroute traffic effectively.
- Managing traffic movement using stop/slow paddles to ensure orderly passage.
- Maintaining constant and clear communication with team members via two-way radios.
- Standing and walking for up to 10 hours daily, with frequent reaching.
- Handling the lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and movement of items exceeding 50 pounds.
- Operating company vehicles for the transportation of traffic control equipment to and from various job sites.
- Conducting regular inspections and basic maintenance on vehicles to ensure operational readiness.
- Working in environments with exposure to outdoor weather, moving machinery, traffic, fumes, and airborne particles.
- Operating within a work environment characterized by moderate to loud noise levels.
- Strict adherence to all Company Policies and Procedures.
- Undertaking additional duties as assigned to support operational needs.
Education, Experience, and Skills Required
- Possession of a valid Driver’s License.
- Successful completion of a background check, including a review of driving records.
- Passing a drug test and meeting federal DOT requirements.
- Mandatory use of appropriate safety gear, including steel-toed work boots, a hard hat, safety glasses, and a high-visibility vest.
- Proficiency in operating a 2-way radio for communication.
- Adaptability to work in varied weather conditions and traffic environments.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with contractors and internal teams, providing excellent customer service.
- Capacity to collaborate effectively within a team setting.
- Exceptional attendance record, reliable personal transportation, and a strong commitment to work ethic.
- Successful completion of the ATSSA Flagger certification course and company-provided Defensive Driver training.
- Readiness to travel statewide, including occasional overnight stays, and flexibility to work nights and weekends as project demands dictate.
- Availability for a rotating on-call schedule.
