Job description

Role overview

Deutsche Bahn is recruiting a train driver for long-distance passenger services as soon as possible. The position is based at Basel and involves operating passenger trains across Germany with a strong focus on safety, punctuality, and smooth service.

The company offers opportunities for both experienced professionals and career starters across many professions in Germany, along with a broad range of entry paths and further training options. In this role, you can also develop internally over time, for example into trainer or dispatcher positions.

Key duties

  • Operate trains with more than 10,000 horsepower on different routes within Germany.
  • Follow all applicable rules and instructions in daily work, while keeping both economic and environmental aspects in mind.
  • Respond calmly and responsibly to disruptions or irregularities in operations and help find solutions.
  • Ensure clear communication with colleagues and other interfaces involved in the operation.
  • Monitor and, when necessary, carry out routine inspections and maintenance-related tasks.

Candidate profile

  • You must hold a valid European locomotive driving licence with the relevant supplementary certificate, or proof of it.
  • You should have strong customer focus and place the needs of passengers first.
  • You need to be fully fit for locomotive and operational service.
  • You are familiar with digital tools such as tablets and smartphones.
  • You must be willing to work irregular shifts, rotating schedules, and occasional overnight stays away from home.
  • You have fluent spoken and written German skills.

Equal opportunity statement

The employer places great importance on equal opportunities and welcomes applications from all qualified candidates, regardless of gender, nationality, ethnic or social background, religion, belief, disability, age, length of unemployment, or sexual orientation and identity. Candidates with severe disabilities or equivalent status are given preference when equally qualified.

Benefits

  • 16 free trips within Germany each year, plus additional travel discounts such as a DB Job Ticket for commuting and reduced fares for family and friends.
  • Access to special employee shopping offers, including monthly deals on mobile contracts, insurance, hotel chains, fashion, and lifestyle products.
  • A market-competitive salary package, generally permanent contracts, job security, extra benefits, and company pension provision.
