Job description

About the role

Swissport is seeking a Ground Operations Trainer to support training delivery at Auckland Airport. The organisation operates globally in aviation services, including ground handling, cargo handling, and passenger services for more than 300 million passengers each year. Its purpose is to deliver consistent, customised solutions across the world so airlines and passengers receive a better experience.

The company places strong emphasis on its values: showing care, doing the right thing, and succeeding as one team. The successful person will help build the capability of frontline airport staff so they can work safely, efficiently, and in line with customer and company standards.

Purpose of the position

This role is responsible for delivering both classroom and practical training to new and existing Ground Operations employees at Auckland Airport. You will act as a subject matter specialist for the nominated client(s) and the operational areas within the port, ensuring training aligns with approved procedures, policies, and quality expectations.

The position plays an important part in preparing frontline teams to meet current and future operational needs while supporting safe and reliable passenger services in the airport environment.

Key duties

  • Create a learning space that feels safe and supportive, while helping trainees achieve the required outcomes efficiently.
  • Use adult-learning methods and facilitation techniques that suit different learning preferences and improve training results.
  • Deliver training in an inclusive, positive way that encourages teamwork and active participation.
  • Carry out training administration reviews as well as trainer and training quality reviews to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Maintain training records accurately and on time, using both paper-based and digital systems.
  • Look for ways to improve the training experience for frontline staff and strengthen a culture that values learning.
  • Run Swissport and client training programs in line with the endorsements, approvals, and qualifications held, including theory sessions, assessments, practical training, buddy shifts, competency checks, and support for eLearning modules.
  • Support employees through supervision, guidance, and coaching during their training journey.

Safety and compliance

  • Follow WH&S requirements, CASA and OTS rules, and all relevant government, airport authority, airline, company, and client procedures.
  • Encourage correct manual handling practices to help prevent workplace injuries.
  • Keep human factors in mind when delivering training and promote a secure, safe workplace at all times.
  • Demonstrate the safety behaviours expected by both Swissport and the client, and act as a visible example of compliance and leadership.

Your profile

To succeed in this role, you should bring strong operational knowledge, training experience, and the ability to work in a fast-moving airport setting. You will need to manage records carefully, support others through coaching, and communicate effectively with a wide range of team members.

Additional information

This position requires flexibility to work variable hours, including early starts, late finishes, and weekends.
