About the Position
This contract role, based in Toronto near Union Station, involves working as an AI Engineer with a hybrid work schedule of 2-4 days onsite. The initial contract duration is 6 months with a strong chance of extension or conversion. Compensation starts at $60 per hour.
The employer serves as a prominent financial institution with extensive North American operations and a global footprint across multiple sectors such as Institutional & Corporate, Wealth Management, Private Client, Retail and Commercial Banking, and Treasury.
Role Overview
The successful candidate will blend expertise in AI engineering, data science, and data engineering specializing in working with large telemetry and log datasets from Splunk. The role demands building and operationalizing AI-driven solutions that integrate data pipelines, analytics, and AI methodologies to enhance automation, insights, and overall performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and sustain data ingestion pipelines from Splunk and other telemetry sources.
- Develop scalable ETL processes leveraging PySpark, SQL, and cloud platforms like Databricks or Azure.
- Improve Splunk queries, dashboards, and data models to optimize analytics.
- Feed Splunk data into machine learning and AI workflows.
- Utilize machine learning and statistical models for pattern recognition, anomaly detection, and trend analysis.
- Contribute to AI/ML model experiments, development, and evaluation, especially involving large language models and agentic workflows such as retrieval augmented generation (RAG) and automation cases.
- Translate complex business challenges into data-driven analytical and AI solutions.
- Deploy AI models and data services within production environments, collaborating with MLOps teams on continuous integration, monitoring, and lifecycle management.
- Design APIs and microservices to surface model outputs and insights.
- Ensure data and AI solutions are scalable, reliable, and compliant with governance standards.
- Work closely with engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders to drive business value.
- Communicate technical insights clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Document data pipelines, AI models, and research outcomes thoroughly.
Required Qualifications
- Between 3 to 5+ years’ experience in data science, data engineering, or AI engineering roles.
- Extensive hands-on expertise with Splunk including search, dashboard creation, optimization, and data ingestion.
- Proficiency in Python and its data libraries such as Pandas, NumPy, PySpark.
- Strong working knowledge of SQL and handling large-scale data processing tasks.
- Experience with cloud technologies like Databricks or Azure.
- Sound understanding of machine learning principles and practical applications.
- Proven ability to build and maintain data pipelines and support production systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with log or telemetry datasets and observability tools.
- Familiarity with generative AI techniques and large language models, including LangChain, RAG pipelines, and vector databases.
- Background in fraud detection, authentication, or risk analysis industries.
- Knowledge of MLOps workflows and tools like Docker and CI/CD environments.
- Strong analytical problem-solving abilities and capable of thriving in fast-changing environments.
Additional Information
This position is not actively open yet but is expected to commence within 1 to 2 months, with the team currently building a pre-approval candidate pipeline.
