Assistant Chief Steward

Position Overview

The Assistant Chief Steward is responsible for supervising and supporting steward staff to enhance cleaning efficiency within the kitchen and banquet areas. This role ensures maintenance and monitoring of water temperatures and chemical concentrations for cleaning purposes, supports banquet food preparation, and assists the kitchen team with necessary tasks. The position involves managing cleaning tools and equipment such as dishwashing machines, hand wash stations, pot-scrubbing areas, and trash compactors.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate steward activities to improve cleaning operations.
• Ensure compliance with safety standards relating to cleaning chemicals and equipment.
• Assist with banquet plate assembly and stock management for buffet services.
• Support kitchen personnel by providing necessary items and assistance.
• Return cleaned utensils and items to designated locations.
• Maintain the operation and upkeep of cleaning machines and tools.
• Contribute to hiring, training, scheduling, assessing, counseling, disciplining, motivating and coaching steward employees.
• Adhere strictly to company policies, safety, and security procedures; report hazards and incidents promptly.
• Maintain professional appearance and confidentiality of company information.
• Interact cordially with guests and anticipate their service needs.
• Communicate effectively and foster cooperative team relationships to achieve collective goals.
• Ensure all quality standards and expectations are met consistently.
• Perform physical tasks such as lifting up to 50 pounds, standing or moving for prolonged periods, bending, twisting, and negotiating uneven surfaces.
• Carry out additional reasonable duties as assigned by supervisory staff.

Preferred Qualifications

• Minimum educational attainment: High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
• At least three years of relevant work experience in a similar role.
• Minimum three years of supervisory experience.
• No specific licenses or certifications required.
