Position Overview
The University of Connecticut's Sports Performance Department is inviting applications for a full-time Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach. This role focuses on developing and executing scientifically grounded athletic training programs aimed at maximizing athlete performance, reducing injury risk, and supporting student-athletes and coaches in achieving championship success.
Key Responsibilities
- Independently design and implement integrated, evidence-based training regimens tailored to sport-specific needs.
- Maintain supervision of training facilities and document progress of individual athletes and teams.
- Support collaboration with Sports Performance staff and coordinate with Athletic Training, Sports Medicine, and Sport Nutrition departments.
- Participate in travel and weekend assignments as required.
- Ensure strict adherence to NCAA rules and University policies.
- Assist athletic teams with on-campus recruiting activities.
- Supervise strength and conditioning interns under direction of the Director of Olympic Sport Performance.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree in sport or exercise science or related field.
- Certification as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) or Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC).
- Current CPR and First Aid certification.
- Comprehensive understanding of NCAA regulatory compliance.
- Proven ability to effectively collaborate with coaching and sports medicine personnel.
- At least three years of full-time independent experience designing and leading collegiate sport-specific training programs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Registered Strength and Conditioning Coach credential.
- USA Weightlifting Level 1 certification.
- Familiarity with performance measurement tools such as Force Plates, Velocity-Based Training devices, and wearable technology.
- Alignment with the student-athlete development philosophies championed by the University’s Athletics Division and sports performance program.
Additional Terms
Salary will be commensurate with the candidate's experience. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check.
