Associate Graphic Designer

Position Overview

The role of Associate Graphic Designer at NRPA Leadership Development Network requires transforming both verbal and written concepts into visually appealing designs. The individual will develop a variety of graphic materials using computer software and tools including digital advertisements, web banners, infographics, posters, pamphlets, flyers, banners, displays, and publication content. This entry-level position operates under general supervision, assisting with the planning and thematic direction of projects, with a focus on educational and promotional materials.

Key Responsibilities

• Create images and illustrations for reports, brochures, maps, posters, charts, graphs, banners, flyers, advertisements, logos, and promotional materials by researching and interpreting subject matter through graphic design software and techniques.
• Design graphics for digital platforms such as social media, infographics, newsletters, and web banners.
• Recommend visual presentation styles, themes, and formats for straightforward art projects; receive guidance for complex, multi-page, or multi-colored productions.
• Ensure adherence to established County graphic design policies and standards.
• Capture and edit digital photographs and videos at various events such as news conferences and community gatherings.
• Coordinate print specifications and collaborate with internal and external printing services.
• Serve as a Disaster Service Worker (DSW) as required under local government regulations.
• Perform additional related tasks as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

• Completion of an associate degree in graphic design, visual communications, photography, or a closely related field; or equivalent coursework totaling 60 semester or 90 quarter college units.
• Alternatively, relevant experience in analytical, administrative, leadership, or supervisory roles that involve interpreting regulations, data analysis, recommendations, and report writing may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.
• Minimum of one year of full-time experience in graphic or digital arts involving the use of graphic design software to produce products or web applications.
• Possession of a valid California driver's license and ability to travel to alternate work sites as needed.

Knowledge and Skills

• Understanding of design principles and publication presentation methods.
• Proficiency with multiple desktop publishing, graphic, and word processing applications.
• Experience with photography, scanning, typography, art materials, and illustration tools.
• Familiarity with reproduction and printing techniques.
• Ability to interpret statistical data visually using charts and graphs.
• Competence in English language usage including grammar, style, punctuation, and spelling.
• Knowledge of computer systems and applications commonly used in design work.
• Incorporation of inclusive design principles suitable for diverse cultural audiences.

• All County employees are designated Disaster Service Workers and must complete related training and respond as ordered during emergencies.
