Job Overview
This role involves designing, implementing, maintaining, monitoring, and auditing various process control systems, including foundational PID controls, advanced process controllers, real-time optimizers, and blending systems used in refinery operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Optimize Distributed Control System (DCS) PID loops by tuning and analyzing base layer regulatory controls, collaborating closely with site instrumentation engineers.
- Design, deploy, and sustain Advanced Process Control (APC) systems to enhance plant performance.
- Configure and maintain Real Time Optimizer (RTO) mechanisms to maximize operational efficiency.
- Implement and manage refinery feed and product blending control systems.
- Create and support soft sensors used within APC and RTO frameworks.
- Ensure control system objectives are met, maintaining safety, equipment, reliability, and quality constraints while achieving economic optimization and improved KPIs.
- Install and configure APC and RTO software and hardware components effectively.
- Integrate APC/RTO systems with DCS, ensuring secure access for stakeholders in coordination with Instrumentation, IT, and site engineering teams.
- Support benefit analysis, benchmarking, and auditing activities related to APC and RTO implementations.
- Mentor junior staff and team members to promote knowledge sharing and ensure continuity.
- Stay current with plant changes and control system updates, analyzing and addressing their impacts on existing setups.
- Adhere strictly to Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) policies and ensure compliance with applicable local environmental and statutory regulations as well as internal standards related to APC and RTO.
Required Skills and Knowledge
- Deep understanding and enthusiasm for process technology and plant operations, including equipment design, optimization, economics, control strategies, DCS instrumentation, safety interlocks, and start-up/shut-down procedures.
- Strong willingness to learn new application areas and collaborate with panel operators, plant engineers, and technical service personnel.
- Readiness to travel and reside at various project sites as needed.
- Familiarity or practical experience with technologies such as DMCplus, Aspen IQ, ROMeo, PID tuning methods, MILANO, and Unisim is advantageous.
- Adherence to corporate values including ownership mindset, customer focus, respect, integrity, teamwork, and pursuit of excellence.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering is mandatory; specialization in Control Systems is preferred.
- Minimum of 4 to 6 years' relevant experience in operations, control technology services, or process control roles.
- Demonstrable passion and aptitude for working intimately with control systems, including APCs and RTOs.
