Role overview
This position leads the Technical Department in Singapore and reports directly to the Managing Director. The role covers the full technical function, including Diesel, In-situ, Fuel, and Internal Support teams, with responsibility for day-to-day coordination, operational performance, and commercial outcomes.
Key responsibilities
- Oversee the complete Technical Department, working closely with the Managing Director and department managers to manage daily operations.
- Deliver the company’s budget and business targets while taking ownership of overall departmental profit and loss.
- Create, monitor, and follow up on goals and action plans that strengthen both technical capability and commercial results.
- Build and run training plans to improve technical expertise, report-writing ability, and commercial understanding.
- Develop the technical workforce through structured training, including onboarding and upskilling of new hires to a high standard.
- Identify future leaders within the Technical Department and prepare them through targeted development.
- Run monthly departmental meetings to review progress, track performance, and implement corrective measures where needed.
- Set KPIs and benchmarks to measure departmental efficiency, performance, and reconditioning targets.
- Take responsibility for employee welfare, coaching, discipline, and adherence to company rules and applicable laws.
- Ensure the department complies with ISO, OHS, risk management, and any future management or environmental compliance systems.
- Keep the department operating efficiently with a modern work culture, a skilled workforce, succession planning, and profitable service delivery.
- Assign and manage technical work by planning scopes, allocating people, assessing tool requirements, and scheduling repair and service jobs.
- Track job progress to ensure work is completed on time, within budget, and at the required quality level.
- Handle job control and cost control, including invoicing and commercial matters, through ERP-based processes.
- Carry out site inspections when required and provide practical technical advice to customers.
- Review technical solution models, undertake market studies and due diligence, and support technical and operational reviews as needed.
- Work collaboratively with other business units in a professional and transparent manner for the benefit of the company.
- Prioritize safety and health for yourself and your colleagues, and comply fully with the company’s environment, health, and safety policies.
- Perform any other duties assigned by management.
Requirements
- A degree in Mechanical Engineering is required.
- Minimum 5 years of work experience in the marine or manufacturing industry.
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines.
- Ability to interpret production drawings.
- Comfortable using Microsoft Office tools.
- Strong command of spoken English and report writing.
- Able to perform effectively under pressure and work independently with professionalism and efficiency.
- Shows a continuous improvement mindset.
- Has solid numerical ability.
- Brings strong analytical, planning, execution, and problem-solving skills.
- Offers excellent leadership and mentoring ability.
- Possesses strong interpersonal and communication skills.

- Experience or knowledge in the marine or manufacturing industry is expected.
