Job Overview

Seeking a skilled IT Technician for an offshore vessel role based in Doha, Qatar. The position involves managing and troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and LAN systems across multiple decks of a steel-hulled ship. The technician will support the onshore IT team in hardware and network system installation and configuration, focusing on maritime applications.

Key Duties

• Administer and troubleshoot managed Wi-Fi and LAN infrastructure onboard the vessel.
• Assist with installation, configuration, and optimization of computer hardware, network devices, operating systems, and maritime-specific software.
• Maintain and monitor VSAT, Starlink, and TVRO media systems to ensure consistent satellite connectivity for operations and crew welfare.
• Continuously monitor system performance to maintain availability and reliability.
• Implement IT security protocols and safeguards to protect vessel networks in line with company policies.
• Provide training and guidance to crew on new technology and acceptable IT usage.
• Plan and coordinate system upgrades and maintenance to minimize interference with other workflows.
• Use diagnostic tools to quickly identify and resolve complex hardware, software, or network issues, reducing downtime.
• Manage IT asset lifecycle including documentation, inventory control, and ensuring critical spares are stocked offshore.
• Keep detailed records of network topology and system configuration changes.
• Collaborate frequently with offshore teams as required.
• Work schedule includes a rotation of 8 weeks on duty followed by 8 weeks off.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent professional experience.
• Relevant certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, or Cisco CCNA.
• Proven experience as an IT Technician within Oil & Gas offshore vessel environments.
• Strong diagnostic and IT problem-solving capabilities.
• Proficiency in LAN and Wi-Fi network management.
• Familiarity with VSAT, Starlink, and TVRO media systems.
• Well-versed in IT security standards and data privacy practices.
• Possession of a valid STCW/ILO medical certificate.
• Training and certification compliant with TOL Training Matrices.
