Role overview
Pact Packaging Wellington is looking for a Maintenance Engineer to strengthen its engineering team. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, this position is responsible for keeping plant equipment running reliably, diagnosing faults, and contributing to ongoing improvement work that supports safe, efficient production.
The role is mainly Monday to Friday, with regular daytime hours. Extra overtime may be needed from time to time for scheduled maintenance, project work, and operational demands.
Key duties
- Carry out planned and reactive maintenance, fault diagnosis, and repairs on production machinery to improve uptime and reduce stoppages.
- Work alongside Production Managers on process improvements, operational support, and continuous improvement activities that lift manufacturing performance.
- Run and observe factory equipment in a safe, efficient way while meeting production targets, quality standards, and food safety obligations.
- Support engineering, maintenance, and operational projects that enhance plant reliability, productivity, and overall performance.
- Oversee subcontractors, manage spare parts and maintenance stores, respond to breakdowns and unplanned interruptions, and keep maintenance records up to date in the MEX system.
- Maintain strong housekeeping standards, spot improvement opportunities, and ensure compliance with GMP and HACCP requirements.
- Help build a positive safety, quality, and environmental culture by following WHSE policies, reporting hazards, using PPE correctly, and upholding food safety and quality standards.
Skills and experience
- A relevant engineering trade qualification, together with experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
- Solid understanding of production machinery and complex plant systems.
- Practical mechanical maintenance and fault-finding skills.
- Strong troubleshooting ability and a structured approach to solving problems.
- Capability to organise priorities and contribute effectively in a team environment.
- Experience guiding, supervising, or coordinating others when needed.
- Clear communication skills and confidence using Microsoft Office tools.

This is a 40-hour-per-week role with regular weekday day shifts. Some overtime is available when required.
