Overview
The Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (DPSCS) is hiring for a management associate role within Clinical Services. Role Summary
This position provides administrative support to the Chief Medical Officer and the Deputy Director of Clinical Services. It calls for sound judgment, careful analysis, and the ability to apply and interpret administrative policies and plans in day-to-day work.
The role focuses on tracking and coordinating key program information, especially for the morbidity and mortality program and Public Information Act matters related to Clinical Services. It also acts as a communication point between Clinical Services and commissioners, wardens, internal offices, and contracted healthcare vendors.
Key Duties
The selected candidate will handle death notifications for individuals in DPSCS custody and work with the contracted medical vendor, contract operations managers, and the Intelligence and Investigative Division to process all required death-related records.
The position also manages Public Information Act requests directed to Clinical Services and supports the Chief Medical Officer’s office by collecting and organizing information for media responses.
In addition, the job involves preparing memoranda on behalf of the Chief Medical Officer and Deputy Director, organizing meeting calendars, recording meeting minutes, coordinating responses to family and constituent complaints, and maintaining Excel databases related to incarcerated individuals’ deaths and PIA requests.
Minimum Qualifications
A high school diploma or high school equivalency is required, along with five years of secretarial or clerical experience that includes typing duties.
Substitution Options
- Additional secretarial or clerical experience may replace the education requirement on a one-for-one year basis.
- Thirty college credits in secretarial science or office technology from an accredited institution may substitute for one year of experience, up to two years of the required experience.
- Relevant U.S. Armed Forces service in non-commissioned officer administration or personnel specialist roles, or in administrative, clerical, or office services specialties, may substitute year for year for the experience requirement.
Preferred Experience
- Experience building reports and maintaining data in Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Experience handling correspondence from incarcerated individuals and/or their families.
Special Requirement
The position may require the ability to type accurately at a minimum speed of 40 words per minute on a personal computer keyboard.
Selection and Assessment
Applicants must submit complete qualification details by the closing date, as late information will not be reviewed. Candidates who meet the requirements will be ranked as Best Qualified, Better Qualified, or Qualified and placed on an eligible list for at least one year.
The evaluation may be based on education, training, and work experience relevant to the role. Applicants should include all related experience and education in their submission.
