About the Role
We have an exciting opening for a Mechanical Design Engineer at a well-established UK-based medical manufacturing company located in Wokingham. This permanent full-time position involves designing innovative medical devices and managing projects from initial concept through testing, qualification, commercialization, and production support. The role encompasses all mechanical design phases including concept development, CAD modeling, analysis, prototyping, and verification activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Design new medical products, applying mechanical engineering principles.
- Manage projects ensuring timely completion and adherence to quality and cost targets.
- Collaborate across departments including Technical, Marketing/Sales, Tool Room, Quality, and Manufacturing.
- Perform design documentation, risk analysis, and verification tasks.
- Engage in prototyping, empirical testing, and product validation.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Proven experience in mechanical design and new product development within a team environment.
- Familiarity with project documentation such as design briefs and risk assessments.
- Strong cross-functional teamwork skills.
- Experience using Siemens NX or similar CAD software for 3D modeling and 2D technical drawings.
- A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or an equivalent qualification, or at least 2 years of relevant engineering experience preferably in the medical or regulated sectors.
Preferred Additional Expertise
- Knowledge of injection moulding design for manufacturing and assembly.
- Understanding of electronics design and embedded software development.
- Familiarity with medical device industry standards such as MDD 93/42/EEC, EU MDR (2017/745), ISO 13485, and FDA Design Control.
- Knowledge of BS EN 60601 and medical equipment standards.
- Experience in systems engineering, architectural requirements decomposition, and interface descriptions.
- Background in supporting systems engineering investigations.
- Broad understanding of electrical, mechanical, and software engineering domains.
- Experience with outsourcing to Far Eastern suppliers.
- Competence with PLM tools like Teamcenter.
- Understanding of BS8888 and geometric tolerancing principles.

Working Hours
