About BDO
BDO is a global accountancy and advisory firm known for working in a close, partnership-led way. The firm partners with organisations across a broad mix of sectors, prioritising practical outcomes, clear communication and trusted relationships.
Team Overview
The Business Restructuring & Forensics team supports businesses and their stakeholders in designing and implementing restructuring strategies, helping organisations work through financial stress and move back to stability while aiming to improve outcomes for stakeholders. The team also handles formal insolvency appointments and forensic investigations, and collaborates with the Deal Advisory group on related engagements. The work is varied, with each assignment offering fresh exposure and learning.
Role Summary
BDO is hiring a Senior Analyst and/or Manager for its Business Restructuring & Forensics team in Auckland. This is a wide-ranging, high-responsibility role that spans restructuring, corporate advisory and forensic work. You will work alongside Managers and Partners to provide commercially grounded analysis and support clients through complex, often urgent situations. The position is well suited to someone who wants broad development across multiple advisory areas rather than narrowing into one specialty too early.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to restructuring and turnaround matters by offering practical, solution-oriented support in distressed or special situations.
- Assist with Independent Business Reviews and Deal Advisory assignments.
- Build and assess financial models, cash flow projections, budgets and forecasts for decision-making and reporting purposes.
- Support accelerated M&A processes.
- Help manage formal insolvency appointments such as receiverships, voluntary administrations, liquidations and creditor compromises.
- Assist with forensic investigations and litigation support, including analysis, record preparation and reporting.
- Review complex financial data and help produce clear, concise client, creditor and stakeholder reports.
- Apply relevant accounting standards, legislation and case law across engagements.
- Support due diligence work, sector research and a range of ad hoc advisory assignments.
Experience and Attributes
- 3 to 7 years of experience in restructuring, corporate finance, due diligence, transaction services, forensics or a similar advisory area.
- CA, CFA or an equivalent qualification, or progress toward one.
- Experience in a Big 4 or other professional services environment is considered an advantage.
- Strong analytical ability and financial modelling skills, with advanced Excel capability.
- Well-developed written communication skills, including report preparation and structured analysis.
- Confident verbal communication and the ability to work effectively with different stakeholders.
- Organised, detail-focused and able to perform well under pressure and to tight deadlines.
- Commercially minded with a logical, practical and solutions-based approach.
- High standards of integrity, professionalism and confidentiality.
What You Bring
You are likely to enjoy solving complex business problems, working with both quantitative and qualitative information, and turning analysis into clear, client-ready insights. You should also value variety, exposure to senior leaders and the chance to strengthen your capabilities quickly.
What You Will Gain
- Experience across restructuring, Independent Business Reviews, due diligence, M&A, forensics and valuation-related work.
- Direct interaction with Partners and senior leaders.
- Opportunities to strengthen both technical and commercial skills.
- A supported pathway for career growth and progression.
Eligibility
Applicants must already be in New Zealand and have permanent work rights.
