About the Company

EnergyCAP is an award-winning software company serving the energy and sustainability management space. More than 10,000 professionals across the United States rely on its platform as a single trusted source for financial-grade, actionable data that helps improve resource management, cut carbon, and deliver savings. The company’s guiding principles are Accountability, Impact, Innovation, Integrity, and Teamwork.

EnergyCAP builds tools that support a more sustainable future and encourages people who want their work to create meaningful environmental and business impact.

About the Role

EnergyCAP is looking for a UX Designer who operates where user experience, design, and engineering meet. This position places strong emphasis on research, judgment, and translating user insight into interactive solutions. Instead of relying mainly on static mockups, you will create working prototypes and, when suitable, front-end code with AI-assisted development tools to move quickly from insight to something that can be tested and improved.

You will work closely with Technical Product Managers and engineers on a full-stack product team, owning the experience from early discovery through to a working solution that preserves the intended design. The role is well suited to someone who enjoys complex, data-heavy products and wants to make a real difference in how organizations manage energy and sustainability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Run customer and internal research such as interviews, surveys, and usability testing, then turn the findings into a clear picture of user goals, motivations, and pain points.
  • Use research evidence to help shape product decisions together with Technical Product Managers and engineers.
  • Create working prototypes in code instead of only static visuals, using tools like Claude Code and other AI-assisted development tools to move quickly from insight to a testable build.
  • Develop front-end code when that is the best route to a functioning solution, with engineering reviewing the work before production release.
  • Set interaction behavior, content hierarchy, and visual direction in the medium users will actually experience, then refine based on testing results while maintaining accessibility and quality standards.
  • Partner with Technical Product Managers and engineers to ensure prototypes and implementations fit technical limits, product goals, and business needs.
  • Support AI-driven product initiatives, including Bill Capture tools for utility-data extraction and processing, as well as the Watts AI agent experience.

What We’re Looking For

  • At least 3 years of UX design experience, backed by a portfolio showing both strong visual execution and a research-based design process.
  • Comfortable building in code, including front-end work, and able to use AI-assisted development tools for rapid prototyping and iteration.
  • Good judgment about what should be built and what should be left out, especially in an environment where AI can generate almost anything quickly.
  • Working familiarity with accessibility expectations and the ability to tell the difference between a prototype that merely works and one that is ready to build on.
  • Experience in complex, data-rich environments; background in fintech, energy, enterprise SaaS, or CRM is a strong plus.
  • Proactive and communicative, with the habit of asking questions early, raising issues quickly, and building trust across product, engineering, and business teams.
  • Comfortable challenging assumptions with evidence while staying flexible and keeping the user’s needs in focus.
  • Empathetic and motivated by understanding people, bringing that perspective into research and design decisions.
  • Thrives in a fast-changing environment and can work effectively without a fully defined playbook.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, ideally in design, HCI, or a related field, though equivalent experience may be accepted; a design portfolio is required.

Compensation and Benefits

The base salary range for this role is $85,000 to $90,000, with a 3% annual bonus. Compensation is also based on experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.

  • 100% company-paid health, dental, and vision coverage for the employee, plus competitive family cost-sharing
  • Company-paid life insurance and long-term disability coverage
  • Adoption grants and paid leave for growing families
