About the Internship
This internship involves designing and developing mechanical elements including housings and internal structures for an AI-driven companion robot in the healthcare sector. You will create mechanical mounts and adjustable optical assemblies for a compact internal projector, collaborate on optical pathway designs, and assist in choosing appropriate mirrors and lenses to direct projected images within a robotic head. Detailed CAD models will be crafted to achieve proper integration of mechanical and optical components, and working prototypes will be assembled and tested focusing on image quality, focus, projection angles, and structural durability. Close cooperation across AI, electronics, and other engineering disciplines is integral to adhere to spatial and functional specifications.
Candidate Eligibility
Applicants must be capable of remote work, starting anytime between 22 July 2026 to 26 August 2026, and commit to a 6-month period. Candidates should possess mechanical engineering or related experience and be pursuing or recently completed degrees in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Optical Engineering, or related fields. Effective remote communication skills are essential.
Compensation & Benefits
The stipend ranges from INR 20,000 to 30,000 each month. Additional benefits include flexible work hours, a five-day workweek, certificate of completion, and a letter of recommendation upon completion.
Required Skills and Additional Qualifications
- Proficiency in CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Catia, and PTC Creo.
- Experience or knowledge in assembly, 3D printing, and prototyping mechanical and electrical product designs.
- Familiarity with optical simulation or ray tracing tools like Zemax, OpticStudio, Code V, or LightTools is highly favorable.
- Interest or experience in camera calibration, optical alignment, or projection illumination design is advantageous.
- Ability to work independently in a remote setting while coordinating with the UK-based engineering team.
