Role Overview

The Area Shift Leader for PCBA will supervise production operations during designated shifts to ensure consistent achievement of output, quality, and safety goals. Leading teams of operators across SMT and back-end assembly, the role requires practical expertise in PCBA manufacturing, including experience with equipment such as pick and place machines, solder paste inspection, screen printers, AOI, manual assembly, wave soldering, and functional testing. The leader will coordinate activities in assigned production zones, support the Shift Leader, and foster a high-performing, collaborative work culture.

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate and manage production across multiple SMT and THT PCBA assembly lines within the allocated area to fulfill full production plans.
• Ensure smooth, balanced production workflow from SMT through testing, inspection, and packing, avoiding bottlenecks and build-up of work-in-progress.
• Optimize personnel allocation, material readiness, and equipment utilization to meet production schedules and targets.
• Implement engineering change orders (ECO/MCO) consistently across SMT and THT processes.
• Uphold IPC-A-610 workmanship standards and quality requirements rigorously in all zones.
• Provide operational leadership to operators to meet area performance metrics including overall equipment effectiveness, first pass yield, and delivery.
• Manage shift handovers effectively, communicating priorities, issues, and impacts clearly to incoming teams and relevant departments.
• Conduct regular process audits to evaluate operator skill levels and define improvement strategies.
• Maintain accurate documentation of area production performance, including dashboards, MES data, shift reports, and key performance indicators.
• Handle escalated production challenges involving multiple lines by coordinating technical support from Engineering, Quality, and Maintenance.
• Promote operator engagement and cultivate accountability through coaching, recognition, and constructive feedback.
• Support sustainability and operational efficiency by minimizing waste and optimizing resource consumption.
• Leverage digital tools including MES, OEE metrics, yield charts, and traceability systems to monitor and improve performance.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Engineering, Quality, Logistics, Planning, and Shift Leaders to stabilize operations and swiftly resolve issues.
• Enforce strict adherence to ESD controls, safety protocols, IPC workmanship standards, and Eaton's MESH requirements.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives such as 5S, Lean, and Kaizen to enhance productivity and product quality.

Qualifications and Experience

• Technical Diploma or Vocational Certificate in Electronics, Mechatronics, or a related area.
• Between 3 to 5 years of experience in PCB assembly or electronics manufacturing settings.

Essential Skills

• Experience in senior operator, line leader, or technician roles with leadership responsibilities is advantageous.
• Hands-on familiarity with SMT machine setup, operation, and basic troubleshooting, including Panasonic SMT models such as NPM and CM series.
• Knowledge of SMT and THT assembly processes, reflow soldering, AOI, and routine troubleshooting.
• Understanding of IPC-A-610 workmanship standards and stringent ESD safety practices.
• Basic skills in production documentation management, work instructions adherence, and quality inspection practices.
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to remain calm and analytical under pressure.
• Adaptability to fast-paced environments with the capacity to shift priorities as needed.
