Assistant Manager - Engineering

Job Overview

This role supports the management of all engineering and maintenance operations within the facility, focusing on the upkeep of the physical plant, building, and grounds with a strong emphasis on safety, security, and protection of assets. The position also assists in budget management, capital projects, preventative maintenance planning, and energy conservation efforts. Responsible for maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements and participating in emergency response leadership for facility issues.

Education and Experience

The ideal candidate will have either a high school diploma or GED with at least 2 years of experience in engineering, maintenance, or a related technical area including HVAC-R, electrical, or plumbing. Alternatively, applicants with a 2-year degree in Building and Construction, Engineering, Mechanics, or a related field are considered even without prior experience.

Core Responsibilities

• Assist in managing physical plant operations such as equipment maintenance, refrigeration, HVAC, plumbing, water treatment, and electrical systems.
• Support compliance with facility and safety regulations.
• Help control and conserve energy usage related to heating, lighting, and power, recommending best practices for cost-effective and efficient operations.
• Contribute to the formulation and management of service contracts to meet building needs.
• Organize and track preventive maintenance and repair work orders, ensuring timely and quality completion.
• Collaborate in the oversight of maintenance across grounds, guest rooms, public areas, restaurants, vehicles, and recreational facilities.
• Assist in developing and implementing long-term plans for preventive maintenance and asset protection.
• Support project planning for renovations or new construction and coordinate with contractors for timely and budget-compliant project execution.
• Build and maintain relationships with city authorities and vendors to facilitate compliance and services.
• Ensure fire safety teams are well-trained on equipment and procedures.
• Perform monthly inspections of property and facilities to uphold maintenance standards and enhance guest satisfaction.
• Evaluate facility conditions to determine necessary repairs or upgrades and oversee procurement of equipment, supplies, and furnishings.
• Manage inventory of parts and equipment efficiently.
• Maintain all required licenses and certifications for buildings and equipment.
• Oversee property life safety systems including fire fighting equipment, sprinklers, and alarms.
• Exemplify leadership in guest hospitality by fostering excellent customer service and a positive environment.
• Establish clear employee guidelines and expectations to maintain high standards.
• Analyze guest feedback and satisfaction data to identify improvement areas and coordinate corrective actions to enhance service quality.
• Consistently pursue improvements in service delivery and operational performance.
