Role overview
Marriott International is hiring a Commis I to support kitchen operations in Accra, Ghana. This is a full-time, non-management role within the Food & Beverage / Culinary function.
What you will do
- Get ingredients ready for cooking by measuring, chopping, portioning, and storing them correctly.
- Wash and peel fresh produce, then weigh, mix, and prepare ingredients as needed.
- Cook dishes following recipes, quality rules, presentation standards, and the food-preparation checklist.
- Prepare cold items and operate kitchen equipment such as ovens, stoves, grills, microwaves, and fryers.
- Check that food is cooked properly and keep an eye on food quality during preparation.
- Set up the workstation before service and cleanly break it down afterward.
- Plate food in the correct portions and use the proper containers or serving ware.
- Clean and sanitize kitchen spaces, tables, utensils, knives, and other equipment.
- Verify that appliance and food temperatures are correct.
- Follow company policies, safety rules, and security procedures; report maintenance issues, accidents, injuries, and unsafe conditions.
- Complete required safety training and certifications.
- Maintain a clean, professional appearance and protect confidential company information.
- Communicate clearly, work well with teammates, and help the team achieve shared goals.
- Keep quality standards high and handle other duties assigned by supervisors.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED-equivalent qualification.
- At least 1 year of relevant work experience.
- No previous supervisory experience is needed.
- No license or certification is required.
- Ability to stand, sit, or walk for long periods, including an entire shift.
- Comfort with bending, twisting, stooping, reaching overhead and below the knees, and performing physical kitchen tasks.
- Ability to move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place items up to 25 pounds without assistance.
