About H.AAPI
H.AAPI is a nonprofit focused on helping the Asian American Pacific Islander community grow and succeed by offering networking opportunities, programs, practical resources, and useful tools. The organization works to make events, webinars, and related services affordable, accessible, and high quality for students, young professionals, and working professionals.
Its goal is to create a welcoming bridge across different life stages, interests, fields, and ambitions so people can connect, share knowledge, collaborate, and leave each experience with something meaningful—whether that is a new idea or a lasting relationship.
Role Summary
H.AAPI is looking for a Communications Operations Coordinator to help run mission-driven communication efforts and support community-focused initiatives. The person in this role will help keep digital communications organized, timely, and aligned with organizational priorities. This position reports to the Director of Communications and works across teams to support messaging, scheduling, and campaign execution.
This is an unpaid volunteer role, not a salaried full-time employment position.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and schedule content for the organization’s social channels in line with the communications calendar and brand standards.
- Build, format, queue, and send email marketing campaigns through the organization’s email platform.
- Partner with the Director of Communications to carry out communication plans that support programs, fundraising, and community engagement.
- Coordinate with the Programs team to promote events, workshops, programs, and other organizational activities.
- Keep the communications calendar current so messaging stays consistent and on schedule across digital channels.
- Edit and proofread communication materials to ensure accuracy, clear grammar, consistency, and brand alignment.
- Help draft engaging content for social posts, email newsletters, website updates, and other digital touchpoints.
- Track scheduled communications to confirm content is posted correctly and on time.
- Handle routine communication queries and provide administrative support to the Communications department as needed.
- Support special initiatives, events, and organizational campaigns when required.
- Complete additional duties assigned by the Director of Communications.
- Work with leadership to ensure efforts match organizational goals.
- Help improve programs and internal processes over time.
Requirements
- Well-developed organization and time management abilities.
- Strong written and spoken communication skills.
- Ability to work on your own in a remote, volunteer setting.
- Genuine interest in H.AAPI’s mission and community impact.
- Comfortable using basic tools such as Microsoft Office, Zoom, and Teams, with the ability to learn new systems quickly.
- Dependable access to a laptop and stable internet service.
- Capable of handling several projects and deadlines in a nonprofit environment.
- Willing and able to travel within New York City for program support with advance notice.
- Experience in program coordination, nonprofit work, or startup settings is preferred.
- Experience working in team-based or community-oriented environments is preferred.
- At least 6 months of experience in communications is preferred.
- Familiarity with Google Workspace, Canva, Mailchimp, Airtable, Slack, or similar tools is preferred.
- Experience supporting volunteers, programs, or community initiatives is preferred.
Education
A bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Education, Social Work, Communications, or a related area is preferred, but not mandatory.

Work Time
