GIS Substation Electrical Engineer

About the Role

We are looking for a knowledgeable GIS (Gas Insulated Switchgear) Substation Electrical Engineer with at least eight years of practical experience dealing with high-voltage GIS equipment installation, commissioning, maintenance, troubleshooting, equipment overhaul, replacement, and specialized SF8 gas operations. The candidate must be proficient working with leading GIS manufacturers including Hitachi Energy, Siemens Energy, Hyosung Heavy Industries, and HD Hyundai Electric.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise the erection, assembly, alignment, and installation of GIS equipment ensuring quality and compliance with OEM specifications.
• Conduct pre-commissioning and commissioning tests for GIS bays and related components, coordinating with project teams, vendors, and contractors.
• Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance and fault diagnostics on electrical, mechanical, insulation, and control systems of GIS assets.
• Prepare maintenance schedules and outage strategies to guarantee system reliability and availability.
• Manage GIS replacement and retrofit projects including upgrades of circuit breakers, disconnectors, earthing switches, CTs, VTs, bushings, aiming to minimize downtime.
• Handle all SF8 gas operations such as filling, topping-up, evacuation, filtration, recovery, recycling, leak detection, and maintain compliance with environmental and safety standards.
• Conduct various GIS testing methods including insulation resistance, contact resistance measurement, timing tests, partial discharge monitoring, gas quality analysis, high voltage tests, and functional interlocking tests with subsequent analysis and corrective recommendations.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• A minimum of 8 years’ experience working specifically with high-voltage GIS substations.
• Hands-on experience with GIS equipment from major manufacturers: Hitachi Energy, Siemens Energy, Hyosung Heavy Industries, and HD Hyundai Electric.
