About Tesla and The Role
Situated in Austin, TX, Tesla is a rapidly expanding and innovative enterprise engaged in designing and manufacturing cutting-edge electric vehicles and advanced stationary battery packs that revolutionize transportation and energy sectors. We are looking for technically skilled, swift-moving teams dedicated to excellent performance. The Industrial Engineer position at Tesla entails enhancing manufacturing systems through value stream mapping, data-driven analyses, and collaboration across departments. The role involves measuring and managing resources to optimally achieve business goals.
Responsibilities
- Assist in meeting new and ongoing production line demands, including managing layouts, space usage, and optimizing material flow.
- Perform work measurement studies, analyze utilization, and balance production lines for both new and established products.
- Oversee production takt time and develop and maintain standard Labor Hours per Unit (LHU), establish guidelines for workforce reduction, and implement continuous improvement workshops.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives such as 5S, Six Sigma, SMED, CI, Standardization, and Value Stream Mapping to streamline manufacturing operations.
- Create, enhance, and conduct training on standardized Industrial Engineering workflows, procedures, and tools.
- Deliver high-quality decision-making support leveraging discrete event simulation, linear programming, and other operations research techniques.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Minimum of 3 years’ industrial engineering experience in a manufacturing setting, preferably within the automotive sector.
- At least 2 years experienced in work measurement, continuous improvement, and lean production methodologies.
- Ability to perform detailed data analyses to inform decisions involving process layout, production line, or warehouse design.
- Competency in discrete event simulation software such as FlexSim, Anylogic, or Plant Simulation.
- Proficient with 2D/3D design software including AutoCAD, Revit, and Solidworks.
- Hands-on experience applying lean manufacturing techniques at scale, including 5S, Six Sigma, SMED, Continuous Improvement, Standardization, and Value Stream Mapping; Six Sigma Black Belt Certification is advantageous.
- Expertise in work measurement tools such as MTM, Modapts, or MOST.
- Strong interpersonal skills to secure consensus from various stakeholders and ability to perform effectively under pressure managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio, complemented by excellent verbal and written communication skills.
