Information Technology Project Manager

Role Overview

PALAS Consulting is hiring seasoned ICT Project Managers to support an Australian Government department in Canberra. This is a practical delivery-focused role at the EL1 equivalent level, centered on planning, running, and monitoring approved ICT initiatives within an established portfolio governance structure.

The position is best suited to someone who can carry a project from planning through to closure, coordinate both business and technical stakeholders, and work effectively inside formal governance settings such as project boards and architecture review forums.

Responsibilities

• Create and maintain project plans that clearly set out stakeholders, deliverables, milestones, delivery methods, and dependencies.
• Form and guide integrated project teams, coordinating with directors and technical leads to secure the right skills and services.
• Prepare monthly progress updates covering financial position, milestone progress, accomplishments, and major risks or issues.
• Oversee project scope, budget, timelines, risks, issues, and benefits, using formal change control processes when needed.
• Develop required project documentation, including business requirements agreements, schedules, end-stage reports, closure reports, and capitalisation reporting.
• Deliver briefings to senior stakeholders and obtain decisions through established governance channels.

Requirements

• At least five years of experience delivering IT projects of different sizes and levels of complexity, using a variety of delivery approaches.
• Background working in complex ICT environments.
• Strong capability in stakeholder engagement, communication, and collaboration.
• Excellent written communication with the ability to produce clear, concise, and persuasive material.
• PRINCE2, PMBOK, or an equivalent project management certification.
• Current active security clearance.
• Australian citizenship is required.
• Desirable: experience in complex global ICT environments.
• Desirable: exposure to secure government system delivery.
• Desirable: familiarity with legislative and compliance requirements relevant to government services, including the Privacy Act 1988, the Archives Act 1983, the PGPA Act 2014, the Commonwealth Procurement Rules, the PSPF, the ISM, and the Essential Eight.
• Desirable: additional certifications such as Agile, BABOK, ISTQB, risk management, or benefits management.
• Desirable: experience across related streams such as business analysis, organisational change management, testing, or applications and infrastructure support.

Work Location and Arrangements

These roles are based on-site in Canberra city. Interstate working and remote arrangements are not available for this position.
