Position Overview
We are looking for a Junior Data Analyst to join Morgan Stanley's NFR Data & Analytics team focused on supporting investigative analytics related to cryptocurrency within our Financial Crime Risk initiative. This role, part of the Legal & Compliance division, supports the Firm's efforts in managing legal, regulatory, and franchise risks by providing essential data wrangling, reconciliation, and reporting for fraud and blockchain transaction investigations.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct foundational data cleaning and preparation for datasets concerning Fraud, Global Financial Crimes (GFC), and blockchain transactions.
- Assist with data reconciliation and validation to guarantee the integrity and completeness of data used in investigations.
- Help generate and maintain reports and regular analytical deliverables.
- Collaborate with senior analysts to format and tidy datasets for use in investigative workflows.
- Perform data quality assessments and identify any discrepancies or issues, escalating these as needed.
- Work alongside Fraud, GFC, and Technology teams to meet diverse data demands.
- Manage restricted datasets subject to US-only access policies, upholding strict data governance and control standards.
- Support ongoing production reporting, including routine data updates and verification.
- Document data handling procedures, assumptions, and transformations in a detailed, audit-ready manner.
Qualifications
- 0 to 3+ years’ experience in data analysis, data wrangling, or related analytical fields.
- Familiarity with SQL or equivalent query languages; experience with tools such as Python, Alteryx, or Excel is advantageous.
- Understanding of data reconciliation, validation, and quality assurance practices.
- Strong detail orientation, especially regarding accuracy and control processes.
- Ability to work effectively with both structured and semi-structured datasets within regulated environments.
- Interest in financial crime analysis and cryptocurrency data.
- Effective communication skills with capacity to interpret instructions and produce organized data outputs.
- Capability to juggle multiple assignments within a team-driven, deadline-sensitive setting.
- Eagerness to acquire new skills, adapt to changing data needs, and embrace innovative analytical methods.

Compensation and Benefits
The expected base salary range is $80,000 to $100,000 annually at hire, determined individually based on qualifications and experience. This base pay is supplemented by additional earnings opportunities including commissions, bonuses, long-term incentives, and comprehensive benefit programs.
