Role Overview
This newly created Payroll Accountant position plays a vital role within our Financial Management Services to efficiently process payroll for individuals directing their personal care services. Reporting to the Payroll Manager, the position covers payroll execution across 15 states for over 10,000 employees. Key aspects include a strong grasp of payroll systems, accounting principles, internal controls, reconciliations, and compliance with state and federal tax regulations. The role requires team-oriented collaboration, responsibility, and timely accurate payroll delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Research and remain informed on Domestic Employer payroll needs and labor laws relevant to each state served.
- Keep updated on evolving tax and labor legislation.
- Prepare and reconcile payroll reports to guarantee accuracy.
- Initiate, authorize, and generate payroll direct deposits through ACH transfers.
- Manage wage garnishments and child support orders, maintaining accurate records and tracking.
- Ensure prompt remittance of garnishment and child support withholdings to respective institutions.
- Process employment and wage verifications when required.
- Administer payroll tax payments effectively.
- Compile and submit all necessary federal and state tax filings.
- Respond to payroll-related inquiries from employees and supervisors promptly.
- Generate management and finance department reports to ensure transparent financial oversight.
Candidate Profile
- Demonstrated experience as a payroll specialist or payroll manager.
- Sound knowledge of accounting fundamentals.
- Comprehensive understanding of Federal and State payroll laws, tax reporting, and labor regulations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and SharePoint.
- Quick adaptability to new payroll and accounting software.
- Strong integrity with strict confidentiality practices.
- Familiarity with HIPAA regulations and confidentiality requirements.
- Excellent organizational and scheduling skills with meticulous attention to detail.
- Effective verbal and written communication abilities.
- Reliability and capacity to work efficiently both autonomously and collaboratively in fast-paced settings.
- A committed and enthusiastic approach to supporting our mission to empower aging and disabled clients through self-directed care.
- Minimum educational requirement is a high school diploma or equivalent; a bachelor's degree in business, accounting, or a related field is advantageous.
