About The Role
We are looking for a meticulous and well-organized Payroll & HR Assistant to join our Human Resources department based in Columbia, South Carolina. This critical position supports daily payroll and HR operations, including payroll backup, onboarding and offboarding activities, employee record management, and benefits administration. This opportunity is ideal for someone eager to grow within a reputable firm that emphasizes confidentiality, customer service, and teamwork. Candidates must be comfortable managing several tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced setting and preferably reside near Columbia, SC. Flexible hybrid or remote working options are available, along with competitive pay and benefits.
Qualifications
- Associate degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Accounting, or related fields preferred
- 1 to 3 years’ experience in payroll, HR, administrative, or office support roles preferred
- Basic knowledge of payroll procedures and HR operations
- Familiarity with HRIS and payroll software preferred
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, with strong skills in Excel
- Excellent organizational abilities and keen attention to detail
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to treat sensitive information confidentially and professionally
- Effective time management with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
Responsibilities
- Provide backup assistance for payroll processing, including handling data entry, reviewing time-cards, and conducting payroll audits
- Maintain precise employee payroll files and associated documentation
- Address employee payroll inquiries promptly and resolve relevant issues
- Collaborate with payroll vendors and internal accounting teams as needed
- Update and maintain payroll reports and records
- Assist with onboarding duties, including preparation of new hire documents, background checks, I-9/E-Verify processing, and setup in HR systems
- Support offboarding protocols such as exit paperwork and benefits notifications
- Keep accurate employee records and administer HRIS data
- Perform employment verification and aid benefits enrollment and updates
- Coordinate employee engagement activities and facilitate internal communications
- Uphold confidentiality for sensitive information and assist with audit and compliance tasks
- Help with HR projects, implement process improvements, and complete other administrative responsibilities as assigned
