Job Overview
The Practical Nurse operates under supervision, accountable for their actions, and contributes to patient care by upholding the organization's mission and professional standards. They provide age-appropriate nursing care within the guidelines of the Nursing Scope of Practice and relevant codes of conduct.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform patient assessment, care planning, implementation, and evaluation according to hospital policies and unit capabilities.
- Maintain high standards of nursing care guided by evidence-based practices and specific competencies for the unit.
- Support the Registered Nurse by carrying out nursing interventions within a patient-centered care framework.
- Assist patients with daily living activities such as meal distribution and hygiene, as directed by Registered Nurses.
- Advocate for patient dignity and rights while ensuring excellent service and care delivery.
- Monitor basic medication indications and side effects; promptly report observations to Registered Nurses.
- Keep Registered Nurses informed about patient conditions and document care properly.
- Immediately report significant changes in patient health status to supervising nurses.
- Respond to emergency situations following organizational protocols.
- Ensure accurate, timely oral and written communication regarding patient care as delegated.
- Work collaboratively with the healthcare team to manage patient-centered care effectively and professionally.
- Promote cooperative practice models within the team.
- Communicate clearly with patients, families, and healthcare colleagues.
- Support the education and development of new staff and nursing students.
- Maintain confidentiality and data security concerning patients, families, and organizational information.
- Manage patient complaints proactively according to policies.
- Assist with administrative tasks as needed for nurses and clerical staff.
- Maintain a safe unit environment by identifying and reporting risks or incidents.
- Adhere strictly to infection control protocols to prevent healthcare-associated infections.
- Engage in quality assurance processes following local guidelines.
- Support a culture of risk management within the workplace.
- Comply with international and Health Authority Abu Dhabi (HAAD) patient safety goals.
- Assess and address patient and family education needs, providing necessary resources and evaluating outcomes.
- Contribute to health promotion efforts within the healthcare setting and community.
- Assist in orienting new staff and fostering a supportive learning environment.
- Complete mandatory and unit-specific competencies regularly.
- Develop and follow an annual personal learning plan recognizing professional growth needs.
- Participate in nursing or interdisciplinary research to enhance care standards.
- Maintain a professional portfolio tracking achievements and development.
- Uphold customer service excellence at all times.
Qualifications
- Diploma or Associate Degree in Nursing.
- At least one year of clinical experience post-graduation in a relevant healthcare setting.
