Senior Backend Engineer

About the Role

We are looking for a skilled Senior Backend Engineer to assume full technical responsibility for maintaining and advancing an existing platform. This role is hands-on, focusing on backend development, system evaluation, technical decision making, and setting effective engineering standards as the team expands.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze and comprehend the current system architecture, codebase, and tech environment.
• Prioritize and manage technical challenges and reduce technical debt.
• Develop and sustain backend services using NestJS and TypeScript.
• Design, build, document, and maintain RESTful APIs.
• Create and uphold reliable databases schemas and appropriate data models.
• Implement robust authentication, authorization, and permission control systems.
• Integrate and maintain connections with external services and systems.
• Write clean, maintainable code, alongside testing and code reviews.
• Diagnose technical problems and assist with deployment and ongoing production support.
• Convert product requirements into effective technical solutions.
• Set clear standards for coding, testing, documentation, code reviews, and software releases.
• Mentor and provide technical leadership to incoming engineering team members.

Required Qualifications and Technical Skills

• Minimum of four years’ professional experience in backend or software development.
• Expertise in Node.js and TypeScript programming.
• Practical hands-on experience with NestJS framework.
• Strong proficiency in RESTful API design and development.
• Experience with relational databases like PostgreSQL or MySQL.
• Skilled in database schema design, relationships, transactions, indexing, migrations, and query tuning.
• Experience using TypeORM or Prisma ORM tools.
• Knowledge of JWT-based authentication, role, and permission access control.
• Understanding of SOLID principles and dependency injection methods.
• Familiar with Git workflows, including pull requests and code review processes.
• Experience working with Docker containers.
• Competent in writing unit and integration tests.
• Ability to analyze, maintain, and enhance existing codebases.
• Capable of independent work and making well-documented technical decisions.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related fields.
• Knowledge of caching systems like Redis and job queue managers such as BullMQ or RabbitMQ.
• Experience with WebSocket technology and real-time application development.
• Familiarity with ReactJS frontend framework.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, cloud hosting, monitoring, and error tracking solutions.
• Exposure to multi-tenant SaaS architectures.
• Ability to develop trustworthy third-party integrations featuring webhooks, retry logic, idempotency, and rate limiting.
• Experience with workflow engines, state machines, geolocation or GPS data processing.
• Prior involvement in logistics, transportation, or operations-related software is a plus.
