The Senior Contracts Manager serves as the lead figure on site, accountable for the overall success, quality assurance, safety compliance, and financial results of engineering projects. This role ensures seamless contract coordination and surpassing client expectations while strictly adhering to Sisk’s health, safety, environmental, quality, and sustainability (HSEQS) policies. The manager actively seeks opportunities to improve project value and profitability.

Primary Duties

• During Preconstruction, lead development of project schedules, method statements, and contract-related submissions.
• Collaborate with Estimating teams to shape contract programmes during tendering phases.
• Direct Quantity Surveyors regarding key preliminary expenses such as plant, accommodations and temporary site setups.
• Chair kickoff and production meetings; assist in resource planning alongside the Regional Director.
• Manage subcontractor procurement schedules, notify authorities about site starts, draft initial logistics and temporary works registers integrating early health and safety requirements, and participate in Design Team meetings with technical updates.
• Oversee complete project team functions including Project Execution Planning (PEP), risk mitigation, commercial outcomes, HSEQS adherence, stakeholder relations, design coordination, administration, and project closeout.
• Ensure all team members and supply chain partners have the necessary skills to fulfill HSEQS standards.
• Coordinate designs from consultants and subcontractors, including BIM deliverables where applicable.
• Implement and maintain the Project Execution Plan focusing on health and safety as well as quality standards.
• Track progress relative to schedules, liaise with subcontractors and site managers, evaluate constructability, propose enhancements, protect contractual interests through timely documentation, and sustain professional site representation to reflect company standards.
• Manage communication flows, documentation, scheduling, and reporting including monthly and CVRs; drive toward Practical Completion proactively addressing issues.
• Supervise subcontractor selection, conduct progress and pre-order meetings, and monitor subcontractor performance and site productivity to ensure milestone achievement.
• Manage the work of Quantity Surveyors and Site Managers, approve expenditures and subcontract agreements, and oversee commercial reporting and financial controls within delegated authority.
• Lead defect management until all are remedied and Secure the Certificate of Making Good Defects.
• Support final account preparation and loss/expense claims alongside Quantity Surveyors.
• Oversee client handover, commissioning, and aftercare phases.
• Promote continuous improvement and incorporate lessons learned into future projects.
• Conduct performance and development reviews with direct reports and coach towards agreed growth objectives.

Experience and Qualifications

• At least five years’ experience managing civil engineering projects with a track record of successful multi-sector project delivery.
• Strong mastery of civil engineering concepts, construction methodologies, and the ability to manage financial, commercial, and risk aspects of projects.
• Familiarity with NEC3 and JCT Design & Build contract forms along with applicable sustainability benchmarks such as BREEAM, LEED, or CEEQUAL.
• Proven leadership skills including people management, conflict resolution, stakeholder engagement, and effective communication.
• Analytical thinking and methodical work habits combined with strong commercial insight.
