Role overview
Podshop is looking for a dependable Studio Assistant to support day-to-day operations in its Shoreditch podcast production studio in London. The studio is around a 5-minute walk from Liverpool Street Station and serves as a creative space for podcast and video production, along with podcast marketing support for clients.
This position reports to the Studio Manager and is designed for someone who can help keep recordings running smoothly, maintain a professional client experience, and support the technical and practical side of studio sessions.
Compensation and start date
The salary for this role is £26,500 to £28,500 per year, depending on experience. In addition, shifts worked after 6 PM and on weekends are paid at £5.77 per hour. The expected start date is either as soon as possible or in September 2026.
What the role involves
The Studio Assistant will contribute to studio preparation, recording sessions, equipment handling, file organisation, and general upkeep. The role is hands-on and client-facing, with responsibility for helping create a smooth, welcoming, and well-organised environment for every shoot.
Studio operations
- Prepare the studio for podcast and video sessions, including arranging furniture, microphones, cameras, and lighting.
- Clear down and reset the space after each session so it is ready for the next client.
- Keep studio rooms and breakout areas clean and orderly.
- Track everyday consumables such as water, coffee pods, and other studio supplies.
- Help open and close the studio on a rota using the appropriate checklist.
Technical support
- Assist senior team members with setting up and testing cameras, microphones, lights, and related equipment.
- Operate audio and video gear during recordings.
- Once trained, monitor audio levels and camera framing during shoots.
- Identify and help resolve minor technical problems, escalating more complex issues when needed.
- Support basic studio shoots after training.
- Join in with equipment and room clean-up after sessions.
Client support
- Welcome clients on arrival, offer refreshments, and guide them through the studio.
- Answer simple questions about the studio, equipment, or procedures.
- Help maintain a calm, friendly, and professional atmosphere throughout each visit.
- Support studio tours and client walk-throughs when required.
File and asset handling
- Import footage and audio after sessions.
- Correctly label and organise files for transfer to post-production or senior staff.
- Assist with file transfers when asked.
Team and maintenance support
- Work closely with studio assistants, studio engineers, and the Studio Manager to keep the daily schedule on track.
- Carry out ad hoc tasks such as moving furniture, preparing equipment, or running shoot-related errands.
- Take part in team meetings and feedback sessions.
- Support regular equipment checks with senior colleagues.
- Report damaged or faulty gear and any maintenance concerns.
- Help monitor studio inventory and reorder consumables when stock runs low.
- Contribute ideas for workflow or equipment improvements based on day-to-day experience.
Routine duties
Daily: studio preparation and reset, basic shoot support after training, pre-shoot equipment checks, and post-session cleanup.
Weekly: cleaning and organising client and studio spaces, reviewing gear, batteries, and cables, and helping with studio tours where needed.
Monthly: joining deep-clean and reorganisation sessions, reviewing furniture, gear, and supplies, and suggesting process improvements.
Working environment
This is a fast-paced, client-facing role that requires attention to detail, initiative, and a strong sense of responsibility. The position also involves light lifting and gear setup, so physical capability for those tasks is important.
About the company
Podshop is a busy podcast production business with modern studio spaces in Shoreditch, London. The team focuses on producing strong podcast content and supporting client success through podcast marketing and studio services.
Additional information
Applicants should be comfortable working with both Mac and PC systems, managing files effectively, and learning new technical processes quickly. Experience with Sony cameras is preferred, though the company notes that this can come from self-teaching or education. Familiarity with Adobe Premiere Pro is useful, and skills in After Effects, Photoshop, and the broader Adobe suite are considered a bonus.
Previous exposure to production, AV, or studio environments is expected, along with experience working with clients and as part of a team. The role suits someone who is eager to learn, takes initiative, and enjoys maintaining a neat and efficient working space.
